the argument would be that he’s enabling bad actors wearing that shirt, because no matter what lives matter, a group of bad actors has taken that slogan and used it as a racist dog whistle. this would be the argument against it

enabling bad actors to do what though? If I see someone wearing a white lives matter shirt and a maga hat I am going to interact or not interact with them not going to be afraid or view them as lesser. Then going about my day

Black Lives Matter isn't upsetting in anyway but as a slogan it was 100% inevitable that various other groups would create the same slogan be it Asian Lives Matter, White Lives Matter, Hispanic Lives Matter whatever have you. It shouldn't be a tug of war for what lives matter. Yes I know the media especially mainstream has always prioritized white lives as has our government how do we defeat or question those cycles is more than words on a t shirt or even a protest where we are often beaten and arrested in the same shirt.

    You definitely white.

enabling them to keep thinking the way they do. this isn’t necessarily my argument, but it is what i think some people have an issue with

I get what y'all are saying but believing a shirt either way is going to change someone's entire core belief system is ridiculous

the same way Ye is Pro Life but no matter how much music we listen to of his we can disagree and understand sometimes abortion is the best option

the idea that listening to his music means we agree with every belief or don't question him or ourselves is a little ridiculous is what many of us are saying

    Yeah, that’s the correct argument.

The counter-argument would be that it’s not his connotation, people put him in a box because they love to simplify you into a slogan and then into an ideology. This is his art, and it’s meant to start a conversation, to ultimately bring us together. But then it needs to be paired with more context if that’s the case.

I dunno. I feel very conflicted on the whole thing. I just wanted to help present the two arguments to try and figure out where I fall. Cause I don’t know where I fall yet. I don’t form my opinions on things immediately.

i actually don’t think it’s about the people that listen to his music funny enough. i think we all believe, more or less, people that listen to kanye aren’t all of the sudden becoming far right trumpers. it’s more so people from the outside viewing in, like that nick guy on twitter. this gives them ammo to stoke these culture wars. and ye unfortunately is playing a part in it

stoke the culture wars? The culture war is there regardless. People play this white and black game all day like no other races exist and often avoiding accountability in many forms for cycles we continue

I swear I'm not defending this at all but I keep thinking about the fact that the f***ing Catholic Pope is on this damn shirt like it's the most perfect representation of the lack of separation between church and politics I've seen this year. Possibly the most cynical thing kanye's ever created

well yes it is here and not going anywhere but this also does help keep it alive. it would be here if ye didn’t or did where that shirt, but that doesn’t mean this doesn’t play into it at all.
