But also, lets have actual discourse...very few people are having actual discourse 95% of what im seeing is "stan" "dickriding" or "you would defend kanye shooting your mom" or "genius" with no explanation

    This is agreeable.

Do you think an argument such as the following has merit:

Kanye is in a position of power and influence to inspire “positive” change in society, however you want to define that. While Kanye has no obligation to anyone but himself and perhaps his life, and can do as he pleaded with his life as a grown ass man…. That, at the very least the vast majority of black people would find that messaging given the current known facts of the situation disappointing or disheartening?

Impersonally think that kind of branding is actually a departure from the messaging he was sporting circa Yeezus and MAGA

none of his rap lyrics about prison industrial complex made 200 page threads in a day

but 3 words on a shirt can

which is more effective in communicating / sparking discourse?

I mean even when his shirt said Free Hoover people just focused on the negative of Hoover acting like he would still be a menace to society

Like, why wouldn't the shirt matter, the man is promoting WLM. The same way you drive past a billboard promoting car insurance is exactly how people consumed the contents of this shirt. They seen the shirt, they seen what it said,it said some f*** s*** and now people wanna talk, cause they want answers!

    Its how promoting works

i dare you to wear it

Yeezy season 1 people joked that they looked homeless.

As in they made fun of the homeless

He now is talking about building homeless shelters and has been working on it

You think Kanye West is promoting black oppression?

You really think that was his point with this? That he is anti-black and wants the world to be worse for black people?

    OR

He is just anti cancel culture and trys to express that in terrible stupid ways?

I think part of the point is that there is no winning because even when he made the message love everybody which the original emphasis was on his moms surgeon but for America that love was for Trump and Trump supporters people denied. When he had more reason to hate his moms surgeon than any of us have to personally hate Trump

the difference btwn a billboard and a person though is that you know what a billboard is trying to do it's trying to inform you or persuade you into whatever is being presented on it. that's just how we conceptualize a billboard

people arent like that. he wore the shirt but he didnt even go so much as talk abt it. it wasnt even in his speech where he was alrdy goin into controversial waters. so he aint trying to sell you the idea like a billboard is. we just dunno what he was tryn to do with it. but that absence of an explanation doesn't mean that we can automatically conclude that his goal was to promote it in that consumeristic kinda way

The usual suspects getting baited by this and writing think pieces is exactly what I suspect Ye wants to get out of this. Best thing to do would be to ignore it and keep it pushing. “Oh Ye wylin again? What’s new?” Is the attitude most people should have to these kind of antics imo. If he saw he wasn’t getting any traction on Twitter n blogs etc he would change it up. But people feed into this for whatever reasons and continue to entertain it, which gives it further longevity.
