Not only over the loss of his mother, but the loss of his wife, and in some sense, his family. Thus, he's reaching out to old friends who love and support him, and patching up old rifts and celebrating those friends as part of that healing process. The features represent the extended family that are still in his orbit, but he may have been previously out of touch with. Jay Elec included.
also about the artists he's inspired - all of the young ones - Baby Keem, Carti, etc. - look up to him artistically - not a passing of the torch, but more bringing the best out of the new generation - this is easily some of THEIR best work

yeah this is a good way of putting it, a lot of his best feats felt like they were complementing/building on the energy he was putting out
like keef's second hook after that verse on HML fit so well. stuff like that
