At midnight EST, surprise! Certified Lover Boy drops. Donda is listed alongside it in the new albums section, possibly with a full tracklist even, but it remains unable to be played.
It will eventually become clear that Kanye pulled the plug on a release the instant he realized Drake was dropping. It might even have leaked if his team wasn’t fast enough; regardless, we’ll be back to square one while CLB shoots to number 1 on the charts.
We’ll hear absolutely nothing for another few weeks or so. There will be a few more clips of radio premieres, but no releases. Finally, around the time that Drake’s first single from CLB notches its 7th week at #1, Kanye will take to Instagram for the first time since the second listening part. All he’ll post is an image of white text over a black background. We’ll know all hope is lost as we read those fateful words:
“Incomiiiiiiiing! New single Nah Nah Nah Remix Pt 2 feat. Masked Wolf out now!”
