Oh word. Well they started with IV because Lucas' vision was in a sort of post-war galaxy - the whole movie contains references to past events that are simply mentioned with no description but applied context. It's so you watch the movie from the jump trying to figure out what could have happened in episodes I-III. Also I f***ing hate Star Wars and now hate myself for writing that much about it.
