I think it’s the other way around.

Everything is centralized now.

The old internet used to have it’s own website for everything. So many different forums & unique communities.

Now everything is located on a single website: Reddit.

We are one of the lucky ones to survive this transition. We honestly wouldn’t be here without @sco’s hard work, dedication, & vision for the platform.

Fragmented was the wrong term yeah - I used that in relation to the over-politicisation of large social networking sites where you feel like everyone is at one another's throats constantly. . . Anonymous virtual discourse acquits the user of responsibility, and the Internet offers a unique safe haven for extremist ideologies to thrive because whoever is saying the most radical things, is typically the one who is getting the most engagement

Beyond that notion though, as you say, everything has become increasingly streamlined and sanitised. . . 'Going viral' for want of a better term is nowadays, a manufactured process than it was 10 years ago when things became organically popularised

Absolutely, it is a testament to this sites dedicated users (and creators) that is has survived for so long and shows no sign of dissembling
