Why is Kanye in Broke Phi Broke after the College Dropout's success & his production before that?

All this success brought him a lot of money so why would he have to be sharing clothing with other members of the fraternity? Could he not simply buy his own jeans? These skits honestly took me out of the flow of the album and made Late Registration to be such a letdown after witnessing College's Dropout phenomenal introduction of West to the rap game.
