I think it’s not a sales game for Kanye though. He created the bigger hype machine, and had the whole world at least semi-interested in what he was doing again. Donda has been bigger than anything he’s done for a while, bigger than the Yeezus rollout which was probably his last BIG rollout. He achieved what he wanted to with Donda, it’ll never too Drake for sales - but it did what it needed to do.

Yeah, the feeling of walking out of the “premiere” and not having an album to stream was much more devastating than with Donda though. Pablo was a little painful from release party until the actual release, and even then the changes were sloppy in how they rolled out.
Donda has been quite slick, almost planned from the start - plenty of hype, big support from Apple Music, the 24hr stream, just lots more eyes on the spectacle of it all. Felt like what he WANTED Pablo to feel like, but done properly.
