Ye was like "bruh I need this verse by tomorrow at noon, and it better be the best s*** you ever wrote". And I was like "Ye, I can't do it right now - I got Aubrey on line 2 and he talking full duet on the CLB lead single, video, the whole thing." And Ye was all "dog, if you don't have this verse to me by noon I will collect your f***ing heathen soul and...". And I cut him off and said fine. I told Drizzy I had a migraine and needed the night to sleep. I went home and honed in on the beat Ye had sent, which was the best beat ever produced in music.
I ran a bath and cried and wrote a lot, all night in fact. I blacked out - and when I woke up I had apparently already emailed him something I didn't remember recording. I pressed play and it was 200-bar Leonardo Da Vinci dis verse. Ye was blowing up my phone the next morning, going back and forth "I love this! I can't release this! What happened in Florence is not my beef!" And I was just like "Ye, it's 200 bars, it's all I got. And Drake needs me." In the end, he felt it was better to leave it off then take the risk. By the time I got back to Drake he had heard I didn't really have migraine from... wait for it... Ye. Drake took it in stride but said I couldn't be on CLB after that, and I didn't blame him. It's all love on my end. Just learning how to navigate this game.
