It's ok for children, but there is something about Super heros that triggers people into holding onto it way past believing in Santa.

There needs to be a study on this.

talking about comics mostly here, but people who get unrelentingly s*** on or bullied or have a hard life in some other ways just like to escape to a world where good and evil is black and white and spider-man or whatever will always be there to save them. i think its a comfort thing. also the complete lack of arts education in america specifically doesnt give the person reading the tools to advance beyond the comic, i.e. they cant recognize simple things like narrative devices/hero's journey etc. and apply them to other works

Let me guess he discovers his powers and everything is cool but then a misunderstood villain comes and his family is nervous his powers might hurt them but then the villain almost kills him and at the end he defeats the villain and everything is cool again and maybe he finds a love interest
