Is mastering somewhat of a dated term? From my understanding, mastering had a lot to do with pressing onto vinyl and compressing the album.
Mixing has more to do with individual track adjustments.

Would "mastering" just be mixing individual songs appropriately so they flow from song to song?
Or is it beyond that?

nah, mixing is how the different "tracks" (as in drums, guitar, vocals etc) of any given song are placed. mastering is the last stage wherethe tracks volume or EQ are changed. Kanye's music usually gets squashed in the mastering stage
