I don't understand the hate on JIK
I always thought of JIK as one of many stepping stone albums of Ye's discography. I remember Ye saying a while back in an interview that Bruce Springsteen had to release Nebraska before he could release Born in the USA. At the time he was comparing the Springsteen albums to Yeezus being that stepping stone album for TLOP. The chaos, sudden beat switches, and the unpredictability of Yeezus had to be thrown into the world in it's rawest form before we could fully appreciate the ornate, full-bodied, opus that was TLOP shortly after. The outro of Freestyle 4 for instance, is Yeezus era af, and I don't believe a song like that would have been appreciated as much if we didn't have similar moments on Yeezus via On Sight, Blood on the Leaves, I Am A God etc.
So bringing this back to JIK... I feel like that album was the Nebraska to DONDA's Born in the USA. Ye had to give us the raw, religious infused, idea that was JIK in its purest form before he could deliver the fully imagined version of JIK that was DONDA. Many may not have liked JIK, but many people didn't appreciate Yeezus (or Nebraska) either. It may not be most fans' fave Ye album, but I believe JIK was necessary.
