Yo, NGL. I can't stand Chance. Best thing he's ever done was the verse on ULB.
Ye is the king of narratives in his albums. TLOP showcases him transforming from a dude whose vice is temptation to a family man. Dark Fantasy shows him going from a guy addicted to fame to a guy who realizes its consequences. Unfortunately JIK has little narrative development, the whole album feels like it's praising Jesus and that's it. "Hands On" was the only kinda unique song in the album in that respect. JIK could've been Jesus-centric and still not have to have been a full-on gospel album. F*** it, even DIAND could've worked on JIK because that song explores the consequences of temptation and has a lot of allusions to God/Satan.
this is the biggest disappointment of this album for me, it doesn't have any arc really. Just a collection of songs. I think the album is a good collection of songs that all support each other and cohere nicely, but not having an arc or narrative does make it less engaging than some of his other albums.

I'm calling it a full on gospel album because it feels like a collection of songs praising God rather than an actual narrative arc-based album. I still like it but it feels like an album I'd want to hear on Sunday Service compilations

When I thought the Book of Job was a job
The Devil had my soul, I can't lie
Life gon' have some lows and some highs
Before the Grammy's ever gave a nod
I wore my heart on my sleeve, I couldn't hide
In '03, they told me not to drive
I bleached my hair for every time I could've died (dyed)
But I survived, that's on God

okay 5 listens in and really growing on me. would definitely put it above Ye. these songs definitely could have been fleshed out more but I still enjoy the fragmented feel for what it is. kinda reminds me of dean blunt, srs or even the last solange album.
y’all are so dim... Ye makes such a huge life change, turning into a born again Christian or whatever, and y’all can’t see an “arc” to this album?
have y’all heard “Follow God” when he’s talking about trying to remain Christ-like when arguing with his dad? y’all actually pay attention the lyrics in “Closed on Sunday” and “Hands On”?? all of “Use This Gospel”? the way the album ends?
honestly you’re just dense if you think Ye, TLOP, or Yeezus had any more defined of an “arc” than Jesus is King
