'Multi-Grammy award-winning producer, artist, and fashion icon, Kanye West, has continued to be a notable figure beyond his public spotlight. Behind the scenes, the artist has dedicated years, working tirelessly to help charitable organizations in times of need. This time around the "Jesus Walks" rapper is assisting those affected by the novel coronavirus outbreak. Discovered only a few months ago in 2019, the virus has left thousands ill and many deceased, calling for the World Health Organization to officially label it a pandemic. As a result, many governments have issued a social distancing quarantine request. The second-largest school district in America, LAUSD, has shut down instruction, leaving nearly 700,000 children without the daily meals that they rely on.

In an effort to help combat hunger, West has begun working with the Los Angeles based, Dream Center. His wife, Kim Kardashian has been a supporter of the organization as well.

“Kanye is involved in social causes in his hometown of Chicago, as well as Los Angeles, and wanted to help people out during this challenging time. The Dream Center continues to feed the students of Los Angeles and is the calm in the chaos for many Angelenos,” says Dream Center CEO Matthew Barnett.

The Dream Center is described as a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives and underserved communities of Los Angeles. The charitable organization has been around since 1994 and serves as a resource center intended to find solutions to homelessness, hunger, and lack of education. Although the center typically offers outreach programs, they are now open seven days a week for 11 hours a day, providing "drive-thru" meal services. The Dream Center welcomes those in need and has recently gained a lot of traction, providing free meals for all LAUSD Students displaced due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organization says that they are currently providing 7000 meals a day, and with the help of Kanye's donation, they intend to feed hundreds of thousands of meals to the children and elderly during this time.

“We are indebted to Kanye for even thinking about us and with his help, we will be able to serve tens of thousands of meals,” says Barnett.

Kanye also chose to help an organization from his hometown of the Southside of Chicago called, We Women Empowered. Developing young leaders in the Chicago area since 1993, We Women Empowered has focused on assisting the elderly during this pandemic by providing three meals daily to individuals. The dedicated team has worked tirelessly supplying meals in the following Chicago neighborhoods: Chatham, Woodlawn, Washington Park, South Shore, Grand Crossing, Englewood, Hyde Park, Grand Boulevard, Auburn Gresham and Avalon Park.

With the donation from West, the organization now plans on expanding the reach of its network and continuing food delivery services to seniors throughout the entire crisis.'
