It really depends on where he's getting all this from. What if he really did try to do his research, but whatever source he got it from told him that?

Kanye's known for being horrible at phrasing things. I don't know if he really meant it the same horrible way he said it, but you could easily give him the benefit of the doubt and open up the possibility he means:
"Harriet Tubman didn't free the slaves. She helped pioneer the process, but the slaves still ended up working for white people. There was more work to be done."

Sorry, but this is still such a terrible attempt at clearing up what you believe he meant.

The fact is that Harriet Tubman freed as many captive slaves as possible from their masters as well as serve in the Civil War.

Trying to minimize her brave and courageous acts and chalk it up as "well... she ain't really 'FREE' free the slaves" is such a disgusting angle to use and I'm so ashamed at how many people happily accept this bullshit take.

    You need more training.

Then he should just say THAT, it really isnt that hard my g. This is what happens when you freestyle your school presentation

This isn’t even the first time he’s done this

He’ll make a crazy ass statement & wont explain s*** then Ye stans create their own a***ytic interpretation of the ignorant statement by turning it into something meaningful or philosophical or positive as damage control

This isn’t a painting in the museum, or a deep intellectual rap song, these are statements made in a political rally

This is exactly what trump supporters do, trump says bad s*** & they use their personal interpretation to negate + deflect the fact that Trump articulates himself in an ignorant manner

Name one instance where we had to decipher & a***yze Obama’s statements????

"my personal feeling" that's it wrap it up
a friend of his mother over a decade ago knows exactly what kanye's up to today

All I'm asking is what point was he trying to make? Obviously the slaves would have to go back to working for white people. Doesn't at all negate or take away from what harriet did

It’s common sense that it doesn’t take away from what Harriet Tubman did. He’s been pretty consistent throughout his entire career with pushing the “we are still slaves” narrative. In the context of the subject matter in his music, to the quotes in his interviews, to even the minutes before and after he said the quote we’re literally discussing rn, it should be safe to assume that he is not trying to downplay Harriet Tubman’s legacy

I agree, in that a public figure as influential as Kanye not articulating his points clearly can be dangerous in some ways. Idiots will take everything he says as gospel and will sit at their dinner table w their families and say “Harriet Tubman didn’t actually free the slaves”, because they’re f***ing r etarded. Some people are stupid, but since when has Kanye been the type of person to shut up and dribble just because some people might take what he says the wrong way?
