True but if The Neptunes got her the record deal they're in part to blame as well
And just because she only sang the songs doesn't mean she doesn't deserve the masters

The control of her masters (different from songwriting/comp royalties) for those two albums have less to do with the neptunes and more to do with the label. Even though the neptunes could've gotten points ( which is completely normal and at a higher % at that because they had a proven track record) on the master too but the majority of that is split to between the artist and label and the neptunes are not liable for the label finessing her nor will a label let them take too much off of that because they're getting paid off that too. Plus she didn't do too well anyways commerically on top of that and kept going into debt.

This is no one but Kelis' fault at the end of the day which is highlighted because she doesn't complain about Tasty, but rather the s*** she did while she was on Virgin.

Hmm alright always thought control of the masters and royalties went along but this makes sense pretty sure she doesn't own either though

In all seriousness the blame shouldn't be put on Chad and P. All 3 were irresponsible for not properly looking over the contracts

Why? Y'all taking any possible fault away from P and Chad is insane to me when the artist that got exploited and has first source knowledge on this s*** is saying herself that they are to blame.

Like this s*** is crazy to me. Even now that she's more aware of the business, she says that she wouldn't do business with P and Hugo, not the label.

Two aspects of it. Sound recording (masters) and songwriting (notation and lyrics to simplify). The sound recording is mainly splitup between artist and label with other people taking smaller percentages here and there (could be producers, even engineers) while the latter is usually splitup between songwriters and publishing companies.

She aint mention how she spent the budget on her 2nd album on renting a beach House in VA to record in. Ultimately they ended up without money to market Wanderland in the U.S so it was never released here. She lowkey did it all to herself

    Cute fan fiction weirdo

"We recorded that album in a big house on the beach. She didn’t want to spend money on studio time, but Pharrell insisted she come to Virginia Beach because that’s where we all were. There’s this area in Virginia Beach called Sandbridge where there’s these giant houses that sleep like 20 people. It’s common down here — these houses have 10 bedrooms — and you can bring your entire family down for Thanksgiving or a week during the summer. This was during the wintertime so the house was probably $2,000 a week or something, as compared to $2,000 a day paying for a studio."
