Dawn FM is a continuation of After Hours. Even the Weeknd said so himself. It's songs off Dawn FM that'd fit perfectly on After Hours. What are you saying?
Dawn FM was a diversion of formula in the same way Drake’s album was a diversion of formula. Abel albums usually have a handful of sounds for fans to pick and choose from whether they want slow moody r&b, or hip-hop bangers, or big pop hits, similar to how Drake structures his albums. Both Dawn FM and HN were albums that stuck to one sound throughout the album for the sake of creating a cohesive album. Also a sound that a lot of casual fans rejected and either warmed up to it or stayed against it.
Yeah, it was expected to do more before the rollout began and it became clear we were getting a left field album.
GKMC dropped and did the 242k before Kendrick had fully blown up. All he had in the mainstream at that point was Swimming Pools.
In the time between GKMC and TPAB, he had Poetic Justice, Maad city, BDKMV, his Control verse, etc etc. He had become a lot more known in the mainstream. Cole had just done 370k with a surprise album a few months prior, Drake did over 500k with a surprise album a month before as well.
Don’t forget the pop feature run he was on too. The amount of fans he got from that Imagine Dragons song, it brought two different types of fans bases together. Kendrick was gonna do numbers if he didn’t drop TPAB, which I’m glad he did
Bruh RUTH being an actual hit song and not just on some meme s*** is kind of mind boggling to me

What’s Ruth
mods need to make a new sales thread in general.
this thread just turned into someone spending their whole day arguing how drake didnt flop
mods have made like 5 different sales thread. they cant decide wether they want one or not
now we saying passionfruit flopped
On the charts? Absolutely. Most of its success came after it had left the Hot 100. It kept gaining streams but it wasn't a successful chart hit.
Drake's last rap album easily outsold Kendrick's last rap album. What's false about that? This isn't a rap album.
Last month, the “the content of this album wasn’t mainstream” excuse didn’t fly. Not gonna fly now
I'm saying MMBS being 'left' field didn't seem to add up imo when he's done better with an album that leagues more unexpected and experimental.
Meanwhile HN is as far off base as Drake has gone. He's usually a consistent artist in the type of music he drops, even if the quality varies from project to project.
So saying MMBS is as left field for Kendrick as HN is for Drake, or that it's as left field in general imo is not correct. But I see your points in other comments so I will concede MMBS is not the traditional rap album.
I love the HN but its mostly just singing drake over different beats. Subject matter the same, even the notes he hits are kinda typical for him
But yeah that departure was still unexpected from him so maybe its a more left field than HN but not like a planet away

Felt like after that he started trying to pander to a hit more.
you haven’t proved me wrong and at least weeknd/drake albums were cool. that kendrick s*** worst album of the year
Don’t need too.
Kendrick will be outselling Drake for the snd straight time in a row.
Bruh RUTH being an actual hit song and not just on some meme s*** is kind of mind boggling to me
Fr I expected it to drop after the first week

Maybe expectations were high but it was a super left-field album, especially as a second album (third if you count Section.80). It did as well as could be expected imo. Anyone expecting that album to perform the say way a traditional rap album would, was delusional.
when do we get Friday projections?

So now you're saying Abel was lying when he described his own album?
personally i think we do need a sales thread just to keep the stan wars in one place and not let all that toxicity spill over to the rest of the site
Last month, the “the content of this album wasn’t mainstream” excuse didn’t fly. Not gonna fly now
Most of it wasn't but it had enough songs on there that could have worked on radio, no?
On the charts? Absolutely. Most of its success came after it had left the Hot 100. It kept gaining streams but it wasn't a successful chart hit.
just because it isn't getting payola levrl radio doesn't mean it flopped lmao
So now you're saying Abel was lying when he described his own album?
it was a continuation of Dawn ''narratively''
you know, the whole red suit, blue suit story

It was more like
“Kendrick’s next album is gonna be huge”
heard album
”Nevermind”
Lol the expectation was there based off his popularity, without knowing what he would come out with.
when do we get Friday projections?
Anywhere from 4PM ET. Usually an hour or two after that, it depends.
So now you're saying Abel was lying when he described his own album?
Not at all wth lmao. This album still is an extension of After Hours but he’s obviously talking about the universe he’s created with After Hours. He’s said Dawn FM is the second installment in a new trilogy.
personally i think we do need a sales thread just to keep the stan wars in one place and not let all that toxicity spill over to the rest of the site
agree but let it be run by someone who isn't a batshit crazy stan
