The issue is they don’t keep up with what’s current culture.
They rather award it safe and with legacy artists they are used to (Beyonce, Mary J, etc sweep the female awards every year instead of new thriving female singers).
Future also def is more bigger with the streets and the young black community right now, but Kendrick got that off his legacy and again older folks preferring his music more even if they ain’t even bother to check out his new album.
This is also the issue with the Grammys, they award Jay/Kanye/etc in the Hip Hop categories instead of newer artists every year because their legacy and preference whether the music was truly deserving.
Bruno & Anderson made a throwback R&B album for old ass aunties and uncles which is why they got that award despite the fact no black person who is like 25 years old is going to say they was rushing to hear that album. That’s also why they literally swept the Grammys lmao.
