Lol technically a flop would be something that does less than it's budget so...
we aint insiders to know that. we can only call flops s*** that performs under the artists expectations
Streaming wise he did better than last time when DAMN dropped.
No one uses itunes like that anymore, physicals died, i'm telling you that's the big difference compared to when DAMN dropped. And Kendrick didnt drop physicals at all w MMBS too
Drake went from 1 milli in 2016 to 600k in 2021. Kendrick went from 600k in 2017 to 300k in 2022.
And even if your argument is "well Views and CLB had a 5 year gap", which is BS cause Drake gave fans an album inbetween
Views to CLB was a 41% drop
Damn to MM&TBS was a 51% drop
You can go through this thread and you'll see posts of me defending Kendrick saying it's not a flop when he was projected to do 350K. But once you're over that 50%, it's a flop

Views was also in the end of physical era

I really would like to see the budget albums/mixtapes in 2022 get
Like 2 Chainz album this year did 20K fw and had features from Lil Durk, Moneybagg Yo, Lil Baby and YB. How did it recoup? Did it recoup? why would label allow this to drop?

Yup. Industry changes are fine and a decline is expected. But over half? Can't defend that

2 chainz prolly never pays for features/beats like The Game
meanwhile bobby shmurda & desiigner not getting the same favors

do you really think artists just give out features like that - or can?
I feel like swaps do happen, with artists of the same caliber
But I cant imagine labels allowing say Lil Baby give 2 Chainz a free feature, eapecially when its time to clear it

or maybe 2 chainz gives away percentages of the song instead of paying.
i heard jay-z demands that instead of charging for verses

Lol not disagreeing. Just comparing with dude that was using movie metrics

With the way the industry is. The only expense I see artists spending on is producer beats and even those they probably get on discount now. Features for the most part are free or swaps. They own their studios or the production label has an in-house studio and they pay engineers minimum wage💀. Even videos nowadays cheap af
As far as labels allowing flops to happen, they have to lol. They signed them ans already invested. Plus they could always write off the flops. Not to add labels survive off a minority of their artists that sell really well and now back catalog

I don't think labels get a cut from features

The cost of creating an album definitley cheaper now youre right
Theres no (very little) CDs/Vinyls/etc to press too

This is Hot Boy Turk, a ex Cash Money artist
At 2:11:00 he speaks about his song with Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, along with multiple other songs with Wayne. But he can't put them out commercially because label won't clear them. Even tho the artists did it out of respect
Kinda crazy to see Charlie do that low imo
Nah his last album did 58k four years ago and everybody’s sales have dropped significantly in that time. It’s about what I’d expect at least
