S*** didn’t matter at all after that. Nobody cared about numbers. It started mattering again with Akademiks. He revived it.

No one in real life cares about Jays numbers. They care about his bars and business mindset.

you have no idea what you are talking about or you just werent around during that time. putting up numbers IS business mindset.

them niggas didnt have rocafella employees buy up their own CDs for no reason. samsung paying for 1m copies in advance. you need to put up numbers to be in THAT conversation.

think you get Nas vs. Jay on that level and talk about king of ny, let alone Nas even feel the need to respond to Jay if he selling 50k instead of 400k during that time? there is levels to this s***.

to be at the point where jay is now you need to have put up numbers during your run. he doesnt get beyonce as a bum, nor does he have the resources and pull to introduce ye/rihanna into the game without being a successful artist on his own first. its common sense.

That was for that singular moment because that’s how they marketed the albums. But after that nobody cared about anybody else’s first week numbers. It was never a big deal. We didn’t use it against people. It was more congratulatory if anything.

Akademiks brought that s*** back no cap. Especially when he was either riding Drake d*** or trying to s*** on an artist he didn’t like. He fostered this new wave if ya ask me.

How is it close when Drake did nearly twice as much ? Also if we are talking just sales that would be Ye considering what Donda did iirc.

Didn’t it do like 400k+ in its full first week? That’s more than Cole and Kendrick did. Only other hiphop I’m seeing selling more than 300k with their new album is Travis Scott tbh (and that’s also questionable after the incident)

They can't be projecting lower pure album sales than CLB when everyone kept hyping up his power to shift pure albums???

Lol I was someone who was talking a lot about the pure sales - but it was specifically about physicals. GKMC sold 200k in 2021 alone on vinyl. This album apparently hasn’t gotten any physical release
