I really can't see it going well for doja, I genuinely feel like she's made a huge mistake by pushing into white audiences rather than black, white audiences are way more fickle and care way less.

i mean she is more of a pop singer than a rapper and i don't think people really want to hear her just rap.

I just think she could have had a career similar to SZA, now I think she's gonna be stuck in this weird place where she doesn't have many diehard fans especially with her weird antics on social media in the past year

btw I think this is the same mistake The Weeknd's made, even though he's huge, his album sales have suffered in the last few yrs compared to others and I really do believe it's because he's pushing too much into white audiences rather than pushing into black audiences more.

Yeah definitely but certain artists play into it more than others, mostly by who they collab with. The Weeknd barely has relevant rappers on his albums at all in recent years and I believe it's a huge reason why his sales are lower than they arguably should be

That's why I don't think Doja Cat pushes forward with her career unless she has popping rappers like travis/durk/lilbaby etc on her album

bieber another example of this, Justice didn't have a single popping rapper, he just had all the popular popping white artists instead. Album did really great out of the US but meh in the US cause americans just don't wanna hear that

Yeah same I want Doja to do whatever too, I just don't see her becoming a superstar unless she moves more into r&b/rap, she doesn't even have to really rap, just make songs like Streets. That's what's hot right now

Why do you think Abel is only doing 150k-200k streaming units an album then? it's much less than Trav, Drake, J Cole, SZA, Kendrick etc. He should be up there with them, but he isn't. Only a few yrs ago he was breaking streaming records with Starboy which had a few rappers

yeah it's not even close to superstar levels when he could easily be up there, sza will probably sell 1.4m in the next 6 months with ease

yea but I feel like his previous albums mixed them both very well, especially Starboy. Dawn FM/After Hours could have easily fit any top rapper, it just feels like an intentional move by him & his team to move away from that corner of music and go more into the softer type

Yeah for sure, but at this point it feels like it's a fact that rap/r&b (especially if it's relatable/personal) is where the streams are. whilst "happier" music which isn't personal just isn't as hot anymore
