Iirc bundles used to come with download cards and in order for the bundle to count you'd need to redeem the code. (last part might not be 100% true)

bundles were merch + digital album, box sets are merch + physical album. with the former, they were the only option if you wanted to buy any merch and there was no way to verify if you used the download link they sent you after buying the merch. with the latter, the merch is available separately so you have to actively want to buy a copy of the album in order to buy a box set, which makes it more reasonable to count as a sale than the former.
