I think this might just be a natural cycle for hip-hop though. I’ve thought about doing a full write up as its own post but haven’t been able to organize my thoughts. Hip-hop and its need of “saviors” is what produces superstars. Two examples that spring to mind are Kanye “saving” hip-hop from gangsta rap and the bling era then Drake “saving” hip-hop from the ringtone era.
