New albums by Diddy, Nas, Rod Wave and Vic Mensa out this Friday.

Two of these won't even hit the top 20

Nas is dropping this Thursday at 9PM EST, so technically his first week numbers are gonna only be for 3 hours of reported sales, the s*** might not even chart at all lmao

Travis is the only hip hop album in the top 20

    1. SOS was SZA’s first album in six years, and was her first album since her mainstream breakthrough.

    2. Morgan Wallen is only entering the prime of his career, and even still One Thing At a Time is 36 tracks long, comparing the streaming numbers of that album to a 12 track album is foolish.

    3. Taylor has clearly been playing in a league of her own this decade, she could release a silent album and it would break 500K.

Like others have been saying for months, it’s pretty clear and pretty easily explainable why Dawn FM wasn’t the massive success that After Hours was, and it has nothing to do with people caring or not caring about new music from The Weeknd. For some reason, it’s only others on this site that keep trying to spread the narrative that the album was some massive failure.

Also, he didn’t start selling out stadiums until six months after that album released, not before.

Easy way to trigger The Weeknd fans is mention Yawn FM's flop

People go craziest about albums when they’re by artists who

    • are known for their relatable quotables and stories
    • are known to have most of the deep cuts rival the singles in catchiness

We see this especially in the current streaming era. The Weeknd, while being an “albums artist” artistically, is not someone who checks off either of these. Doesn’t really speak to quality just types of appeal imo

The Weeknd has some of the most loved deep cuts in music currently

Weeknd literally just had a seven-year-old deep cut hit #1 on the Hot 100

almost everyone on here agrees HNVM was a flop yet it did similar numbers, so it's interesting

Olivia Rodrigo has 3 solo #1 singles & 6 top 10 hits from only 14 songs. 2 #1 albums, each debuting with 295k+ units. Just announced a 57-date arena world tour with more dates set to be announced. Only 20 years old and barely 3 years into her mainstream career but has already established herself as a household name within a younger audience.

All Doja Cat has over her is more songs.

Olivia first week streaming units are higher than The Weeknd/Justin Bieber/Ariana Grande's last albums too, i think she's the #2 popstar now stream wise

Crazy how much ground she's covered with just 2 albums and 23 songs. She's already playing arenas around the world and it'll only further solidify her fanbase for when next she drops another album.

This is the same as when Kanye stans were using Spotify global streams over 9 days to suggest Kanye would have done 800k first week if he dropped on a Friday.

    I wouldn’t consider HNVM a flop either.

I think we’ve become too spoiled and numb as consumers when it comes to things like this. If an album is going platinum in less than a year/just under a year, I wouldn’t consider it a flop whatsoever.

Not every single album is gonna be the most successful album of all time. I think the bar for success for superstar level artists is platinum within a year.

Not gonna lie I was looking for the source too afterwards and I see that it originated with an Akademiks post so I’m not sure how true it is

Then again though, he did also first announce that Travis was adding more shows to his tour, so maybe it’s Travis’s team speaking directly to him

disagree. drake doin a milli in under a year is definitely a flop while gunna doing that is great.

flop is relative to the artist. like bongos for example would be great for a lot of artists but for cardi thats a flop.
