I wouldnt call streaming passive honestly

Out of the 3 forms of consumption:

Stream
Radio
Physicals

Radio is defo passive, physicals the most direct and streaming in the middle

You still have to make the conscious choice to search that artist over the million other artists on streaming, which requires enough marketing and awareness of the artists releases to do so

Which is wild cus radio is weighted heavier than streaming according to billboard for the hot 100 yet there is no conscious choice by the consumer on whats being played at all, and artists buy radio deals and spins

I don’t have to defend my presence on this site. If you have been on this site more than a year, niggas know what I do. Ask anyone. The most generous nigga here and I don’t ask for any special treatment. I’m on this site because I love people and music.

I also love Drake I’m just not a bias led fan that only find issues when it happens to him.

And I responded to that by saying both metrics measure different things and shouldn’t be conflated. Then I said artists would prefer pure sales over streaming because it’s a better form of support. Then you said there’s no difference between listening on streaming vs. listening on vinyl. Straw man.

Bro you're arguing with a wall at this point. All I said is that most people are consuming music through streaming. Most people that buy physicals, never even open them. They hang them up as a collectible item. Physical sales is like merch sales, it just indicates that an artist is good at marketing themselves which gets people to buy 5 variations of the same CD/Vinyl with a different cover. I think streaming is the best metric to measure how popular an album actually is, that's all I'm saying. Not sure how you're hearing something different

First week album sales existed before streaming as a way to tell how popular an album is the given week because people were actually playing CDs (Crazy huh?) . Now that streaming has come around, the best way to tell how popular an album is, would be by looking at the streaming numbers because that's how the vast majority of listeners are consuming music
