    A) 50k fans that buy a CD ($10 with exclusive songs) + a Vinyl ($50) = 100k sales

    B) 1 million people listening to a 15 track album 10 times front to back first week

if u were an artist that's dreamed of making music ur whole life & having a fanbase I swear you'd have to be mentally ill to choose A), yet people on here will defend it till they die

lmao yeah.. because he didn't use bundles for that album

That proves our whole point man

    Can you not read?

Logic’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is expected to debut at No. 1 of the Billboard 200. According to HITS Daily Double, the Maryland rapper’s latest album will rake in 75,000 to 85,000 in total activity, with 15,000 to 20,000 from pure album sales. The album’s merchandise bundle sales could additionally increase those numbers, landing at an estimated six-figure range.

If it's over exaggerated, why is everyones first week numbers down so much compared to 10+ years ago? How does that make any logical sense at all?

There's literally less than 10 total artists that sold 200k+ streaming units with their last album. In hiphop alone there were like 20 albums that sold over 200k in just 2004 lol.

Because the majority of people don’t buy records anymore and they stream only.

So you’ll see someone like Latto do millions of streams first week and she can’t even clear 25K, that’s how it’s over exaggerated

So spending more for a ticket means he has more fans... but last page you just said streaming (which costs $10 a month for unlimited music) should carry more weight than buying a $10 cd or $40 vinyl

    The logic isn't adding up

Because it is ridiculously easy to manipulate streams, and also requires little to no effort to stream an album. Of course the number should be high for total streams to equal one sale

Yk option A is like 5x the money right lol

And streams aren't a fanbase, just ppl passing by. 99% of the time they didn't pay that membership specifically for you

This the angle I keep tryna look at it from

30k first week reads as “oh they flopped” but in a mainly streaming only era, that’s like 45M streams. That’s CRAZY numbers bruh. Thats 3 million people listening to a 12 song album one time. Idk

But by that same token, the same people championing for streaming will call Utopia a flop because it only did 200K via streaming

You're literally proving my point, getting numbers via streaming is WAY harder than it was 10-20 years ago from selling actual records. In the 2000s Latto woulda sold 100k easily, probably more. Therefor it's not over exaggerated at all

I'm actually pretty sure option A would be way less money for the artist over time, 1m people loving your album enough to listen to it front to back 10 times would result in a LOT of those people going to your shows. You'll never be able to do shows at arenas if your audience is only 50k people

no because people aware of how streaming works know that 200k streaming units is actually insane & very few artists are capable of it

It's factually harder to get 200k streaming units in 2024 than it was to sell 400k pure of an album in 2004

Yeah fair he had some but they upped it massively with NP based on what I've read, same as what Trav did between Birds & Astroworld

But anyway my point is that Logic sold what? 150k extra pure through bundles yet you guys think Drake couldn't do the same? Wild

This is utterly and completely false. This year alone we’ve seen numerous artists raking in plenty of streams who can’t sell out a venue.

Streams don’t translate to ticket sales.

    Streams are passive support

That has nothing to do with what I'm saying lol, i'm saying an artist with an audience of 1m loving the music is way more likely to sell tours than an artist with an audience of 50k stans buying the music. That's pretty obvious

Before streaming there were also loads of artists selling 200k, 300k fw that could never sell an arena tour also, this isn't anything new. Selling arena tours has always been difficult. Ludacris sold 322k fw in 2004 yet never did an arena tour. Lloyd Banks sold 433k fw in 2004 yet never did an arena tour

so saying streaming doesn't mean as much because you've got artists like Carti selling a measly 100k struggling to sell out an arena tour doesn't make sense
