Yeah I’m not sure why the first week matters so much to some, especially with artists who have proven to release songs that do well over time (like Weeknd or Bruno)

Yeah people thought Die With A Smile is going to flop too and now it's doing over 10 million streams daily

because it's just weird lol, his fanbase should be hungrier for new music considering its size

being outstreamed 1st day by a surprise drop by a dude who couldn't even sell out an arena tour 12 months ago is just weird

outstreamed by tate mcrae too who also can't sell arenas

    A #1 debut doesn’t mean that a song is a hit.

    Slime You Out out now.

In the same way that a low debut doesn’t mean a song is a flop.

    Starboy out now.

In the same way you can’t really tell and should just give the music time to actually grow and reach all listeners (biggest hit of the decade blinding lights out now which fell 52 places then slowly rose back to #1 over 3 months)

His last 2 solo albums did over 190k and 200k respectively

What was the point you're trying to make?

Bruno Mars has only peaked at #1 once in the Billboard 200. And for one week.

All his three other albums never reached the top. His past two albums debuted at #2. 24K Magic was blocked by a Metallica album.

This Sabrina Carpenter album had bigger first week numbers than all his albums

And yet, all his albums are massive, charting hundred of weeks. In fact, he has the longest charting studio album of the century (almost 700 weeks) and the fourth longest charting studio album of all time... and it sold 55k copies in its first week in 2010. It's now almost reaching diamond certification

And this album Unorthodox Jukebox didnt even debut at #1 either, it only reached the top three months later due to its stability. Also close to diamond certification

Tate & Carti’s fanbases are a lot more younger and online than Weeknd’s.

Also, Carti doing numbers at this point shouldn’t be a surprise, he’s been major all year and he’s the king of the internet right now

his streaming debuts for his last few songs are barely lower than the weeknd's lol

which is pretty good considering he's from the previous era & almost never around internet wise

Maaaaan come on, Weeknd's fanbase is objectively literally 10x the size of tate's and it's almost entirely people aged 20-40 that spend crazy amounts of time on IG and all that, bro has 75m followers

First of all, Bruno Mars wasn't even as established back then so that 55k fw was fine for 2012 and honestly Bruno was always more of a singles artists than an album one
He was in the same lane as Maroon 5 and Flo Rida (who Bruno also wrote for) with making seemingly disposable pop music that didn't have a consistent brand identity that was mostly just big on radio
Also Sabrina is a f***ing plant and I'm not going to hear anything else to convince me

How can Sabrina be a plant if she flopped for 10 straight years until she had her first real hit? Yeah... she's getting pushed this year obviously but she isn't a plant at all

Starboy debuted at #40 and Blinding Lights fell to #52 in its’ second week.

A low debut for a Weeknd single means absolutely nothing
