drake was literally #1 for rap for a while. All it shows is unique listeners. Someone could just listen 1 time in the 28 day period.

    Bro I understand this

All we’re saying is that it’s a SEPARATE metric that measures a SEPARATE stat.

Trying to argue that it’s meaningless because it has no effect on total streams (which is obvious) is stupid

But let them tell it, it's the most important stat on Spotify lmao.

    Nobody is saying this

We’re just saying it’s not meaningless like y’all keep saying it is

Both stats are important, neither is more important than the other

The Weeknd has been selling out stadiums for two straight years, by what metric are you coming to the conclusion that Drake’s tour was more successful?

    You niggas are INSANE

After Hours til Dawn is the 9th highest grossing tour of the decade, broke numerous venue records, and pulled in over $360 million dollars from 3.2 million tickets sold.

Eh? Drake's tour at least in the US made way more money than The Weeknd's.

After Hours til Dawn made $148m from 1m tickets, 21 shows
    It's All a Blur made $290m from 1.1m tickets, 71 shows

Can't really use the shows excuse considering that's w/ Drake selling basically same amount of tickets

    Monthly listeners doesn't pay artists
    Actual streams do

It's meaningless in regards to how popular an artist is and how much support their music is actually getting. That's my point. I see it the same way a musician having a s*** load of followers or even "fans" on social media, doesn't necessarily translate to their music putting up numbers when it drops.

All these rap girlies have a lot of fans/support online but when they drop music, none of those people show up to actually support. Same can be said for a lot of pop singers. Meanwhile, it's certain artists who might not have a rabid fanbase that goes overboard with the online support and may not have a lot in terms of a following on social media but they drop music and there's motion. They announce a tour and tickets move.

You can pick which is more important: actual support for your music career that you can quantify or silly, ridiculous stats/"support" that don't actually mean anything.

Bro all this means is that Drake’s tickets cost more on average.

You can’t judge tours by box office gross alone because of the varying levels of ticket price.

It’s not the film industry where every ticket is the same price (besides IMAX screenings) or every tour has the same number of shows etc

Literally the only difference between the two tours is that the average price of a Drake ticket cost double the price of a Weeknd ticket, that doesn’t mean his tour was more successful

If it’s meaningless then why is the majority of the top 15 artists able to pack out stadiums globally?

You’re acting like the artists with the most monthly listeners are either irrelevant or not popular at all, they’re all superstars (with the exception of David Guetta but he is a megastar in the EDM world)

There’s clearly a correlation between an artist’s popularity and their monthly listeners.

We’re not talking about flashes in the pans who make it to the top 10 of that list and then disappear after a few months, all of the artists in the Top 15 have been there for quite a while.

Also, monthly listeners do translate to payment as well. 100 million monthly listeners is AT LEAST 100 million monthly streams

Nowadays most artists are price gouging. There is no reason a Drake ticket should’ve averaged out at $250. Absolutely none whatsoever.

Y’all stay using his tour box office as an example of something without explaining why he grossed that much with an arena only tour only. The tickets were ridiculously expensive.

The PS5 Pro is $700 without a disc drive and people are going to buy it. That doesn’t mean Sony is not price gouging

How else can you measure it then lol? Number of tickets sold?

Every artist price gouges, it's crazy to think otherwise. There's such a huge difference between selling an arena tour out at $100/ticket avg v $250 ticket/avg, if you don't see that then I'm confused

but i think a sports equivalent of this is execution and difficulty in olympic gym.

difficulty is ticket price and execution is # of tickets sold

If enough people are willing to pay for a service or an experience at a specific price, regardless of how outrageous the price might seem to other people, then that's the value of said thing. The people who bought Drake tickets for $250 a pop decided he was worth that much and the value of experiencing him live in concert was worth that. There are people who were buying Taylor Swift resale tickets for $10,000 a pop. That's outrageous but they decided she was worth it and that's that.

All being able to move tickets at a high price proves is that the demand for the artist is just that high because not everyone can pull that off.

Someone can give you and I access to an arena and put tickets up for sale for $1 each and we would sell absolutely no tickets.

Low ticket price does not guarantee butts in seats

You can measure it using all of the variables at play. Tickets sold, box office, venues played at, records broken, etc.

You’re just going to “well Drake’s concert made more money” and using zero context to explain why that’s the case, that’s asinine considering the fact that Weeknd’s tour has been extremely successful as well.

Bro you’re the same person that made that thread in 2022 that said he wouldn’t be able to sell out stadiums, now he’s doing that and you’re still saying it wasn’t a success

That’s extremely rare for artists on the level of a Drake or a Weeknd.

Whatever the ticket prices initially are, is what they’re gonna sell for. We’re not talking about unknown artists here, these are worldwide superstars.

Drake can sell tickets for $500 and they will sell out simply because he’s Drake, same with any artist at his stature. That doesn’t mean the value of a Drake concert is $500.

Obviously, but the average being $250 means that even the highest seats up top were in the triple digits

Look all I’m saying is that you can’t simply say:

“X tour was better than Y tour because X tour made more money”

There are so many more factors at play than box office alone, and not all box office is equal because not all ticket prices are equal. This isn’t the film industry.
