I can drop an album right now, if it gets 10 million plays over the span of a year, that’s a whopping $30K

There's many artists in the underground that're making literal millions, just from streaming

Perhaps you need to go back to school and further your education?

He keeps saying streaming ONLY benefits big artists.

If artists are going from NOTHING to superstars almost over night,, whilst demolishing established acts, it shows that's completely false.

Only is a stretch but it indeed favors the financially stable artist.

You keep bringing up Sabrina being an overnight success like this not her 5th album and she ain't been making music since 2014 lol

10m on an album after a year is literally nothing though, you wouldn't get 6k sales at $5 each on that 20 years ago at all

a billion streams globally isn't exactly an insane achievement anymore tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if 100+ songs hit that every year now

1b streams in your main market is way more impressive though, because the artist eats way more from it

I don’t think we’ve reached the point yet where 1B streams is unimpressive relax lol

On Spotify, $1 million dollars is the equivalent of about 333 million streams.

Please point to me an underground artist regularly dropping albums that amass that many streams

That girl was flopping for ten straight years and supposedly she’s an example of streaming benefitting everyone

I’m saying right now, if I was an underground artist, I would only need to sell around 3K vinyl and CD priced at $9.99 minimum to achieve $30,000. Someone like Westside Gunn does that in literal minutes selling exclusive vinyl, CD, and cassette with Daupe

here's a list of artists that have an album this decade that've outsold any Ariana/Drake/Weeknd album released this decade

    SZA
    Morgan
    Olivia
    Lil Baby
    Sabrina (soon)

Those 5 wouldn't have been in the top 100 of "most financially stable artists" at the start of the decade.

Dog what are you talking about

    I’ve said three times now:

I never said streaming makes it impossible to blow up.

I said, that artists are not making any reasonable money off of streaming, UNLESS they blow up.

Yes, financially, it only benefits artists who have a large audience.

I NEVER SAID that small artists are unable to eventually create a large audience through streaming.

20 years ago they'd be in N-SYNC deals making $100k a year. lol

Yes because contracts were f***ed, I’m conceding that. I’m not comparing it to 20 years ago I’m comparing to right now.

If you’re a smaller artist right now, you are much better off having an audience that buys pure copies of your work rather than only streams it

20 years ago that artist probably wouldn't even exist lol, streaming has caused there to be waaaaay more artists than ever before, probably 5x more. I highly doubt they'd be selling 3k pure at $9.99 each, that's ridiculous
