Eh, no one in their right mind is claiming that. Did Drake give him a look early on in his career? Yes, absolutely. That's something Kendrick himself, along with people in his camp have admitted to. Him being featured on Take Care — the biggest rap album of 2011/2012, as well as being one of the supporting acts on the Club Paradise tour — the biggest hip-hop/rap tour of 2012, did a lot for Kendrick visibility-wise. It doesn't mean Drake gave him a career. It just means he gave him real support at a point in his career when he really needed it.

I think Dr. Dre's support during Section.80 and him signing with Aftermath (around the time Club Paradise tour was launched) did way more for Kendrick. The hype for GKMC was not because of Buried Alive and it wasn't because of Club Paradise neither. It was because Dr. Dre's new protege was releasing his major label debut, at least that's how I remember it as an international fan

Of course people knew about him in the hip-hop world but you don't go from doing 5k first week with Section.80 in 2011 to over 242k first week with GKMC 2012 without doing some real groundwork. Remember, this wasn't the streaming era where you could not tour and some songs would simply go viral and give you exposure. There was no TikTok and social media was barely a thing in 2011/2012.

Him simply signing to Aftermath isn't what did it for Kendrick. Yes, it created excitement but he needed to actually go out on the road and connect with fans. Many people didn't even know he has signed with Aftermath until GKMC dropped.

You're being disingenuous if you think him touring with Drake playing arenas and amphitheatres across the US and the Europe as his first time ever touring didn't expose him to a major audience. That tour did wonders for everyone who was a part of it.

Kendrick's first time performing for an international audience was on that tour.
