I'm too old for Carti, it doesn't connect for me at all. Except he did do well on that Timeless record

That was me around die lit time. Then I put it in the gym rotation for a couple months and became a fan. I understand it now.

the way black weebs discuss and prioritize anime is crazy but this topic could deserve a whole thread

just something I noticed. there’s even full anime communities in many African countries lmao. I don’t get it…but I’m not hating on s*** people love. just like…where our cartoon characters? proud family? Boondocks?

idk. just a thought I’ve always had cause black people today are INFATUATED with Japan before they even think of communities that look like them

Hits a lil different with Yt privilege on top imo but anime worship in Africa would be an interesting dive.

Proud Family came back recently, but I guess not that many people tuned in. And I've been falling out of love with The Boondocks as of late but I do wish for a show that mixes satire and absurdity until I slowly realize the real world is a lot crazier than it was a decade ago

I'd always tuned in since that self titled joints and the AWGE collaborations..maybe that helped with digesting some of his stuff. Plus even then, Die Lit/Red both had some cuts I genuinely f***ed with heavy

It was honestly over the girl, bro thought they was still f***ing around but they weren't. Imagine 4 Small Forwards 6'5 and up covering up your peep hole at 5am

Everybody knew where we stayed because we threw parties, so every time something happened niggas was at our door over some hoes

After the deported Mexicans showed up Pops said verbatim "aight darkskin nigga protect my son because niggas ain't feeling y'all and that lightdkin nigga too pretty" bruh we still be dying at that s***

Creating a whole new animated medium in your culture is a big ball game to start honestly. White and Japanese people cooked with creating western and eastern animation. Hispanics picked up anime quickly with dragon ball z. It has a grip on Mexican culture lol

i just want the niggas who look like me discussing in depth about characters created by a japanese man about Japanese society to take a step back sometimes cause like, they not like us

idk, it’s a topic I’ve been thinking about for a looooong time. I get it’s all about being a nerd, but idk. It’s also a culture thing. and it would require one to enter that culture while leaving their own to get it, you know? Very alienating thought when you just look at it

like pulling up to a cosplay event and you the only nigga there yea it’s about being a nerd…but buddy…lmao

there’s a dude rn running up a bag on patreon by doing voiceovers of Yugi-Oh but using patois and jamaican slang
you definitely right. idk, I’ve just always felt like the black community could thrive pushing characters and stories that align with us cause we have so many talented artists and creatively passioned writers and graphic designers. not to separate, but even expand the overall anime community and open doors
for new storylines. cause man, these niggas can get passionate about some one piece type s***

People outside were literally calling us by our apartment number and when 200 people showed up to an apartment party, the cops showed up within the hour. We knew it was time to move

Yeah I feel you. I've seen some African animators who are trying to come up with some s*** if their own. I just think it's costly af to go from the ground up with original material, without any guarantee that it catches on, when you can just make a show vaguely similar to a popular show (not something I fw but I get it).

Take for example, this animator from Zambia

This one is Zimbabwean and uses the concept of totems in his culture

Obviously you can see that they're still pretty rough but the passion is there. It's just that when it comes to arts in Africa, there ain't much in the way of funding brother, which forces people to take storytelling shortcuts.

    Lmao I've seen those vids.

It's got to start within to build that industry, and that'll take decades. I've seen so much back and forth about black anime fans wanting more representation in anime, but Japan is...xenophobic and ignorant about black culture.

Why would anyone expect Japanese people to be tasteful about representing poc people when they haven't had a good track record? (They still should do the work)

It'll either be crazy in a good way or the cops show up, no inbetween
