All this nigga does is cherry pick. Imagine thinking a song like Espresso wasn’t a mega hit because it didn’t finish in the Top 5 of the Year-End Chart
Espresso is again a great example though lol because that song really wasn't a "megahit" in the US at all. I don't think it was even half as big as songs like The Box, Sicko Mode, God's Plan etc
It was much bigger outside the US. The US in general just doesn't really have megahits anymore like it used to
If you weren't being such a hoe you'd also see that megahits in the US have become so much rarer than they used to be lol. The industry used to revolve around these huge songs, but now it seems to revolve around albums instead
Go look at a list of the biggest songs of like 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 etc and compare them to 2023, 2024. The difference is ridiculous

Espresso is STILL on the Hot 100 after 45 weeks of charting.
God’s Plan charted for 36 weeks.
The Box for 38 weeks.
Sicko Mode for 52 weeks.
Espresso will absolutely either catch or pass Sicko Mode since it is still at #17 after 45 weeks and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

these are just chart stats
i thought you said sales were the best way to determine if a song is a mega hit

No, I said that chart longevity was the best measurement of how big a record was.
Also, if you wanna bring up sales, Espresso went 5x Platinum in 8 months

Best song on the album and a highlight in Kendricks career. Absolutely amazing rap track
crazy that kill bill was only #1 for a week, still not crazier than snooze never going #1

https://twitter.com/talkofthecharts/status/1894843822993199372And yet Kill Bill was on the chart for 52 weeks, and Snooze for 70 weeks.
Examples like these are why I will always stand on the fact that chart longevity will always be more important then chart position

You do realize there are periods where the charts are strong and have huge competition and other periods where the charts are weak and easy to perform well at, right? Charts depends on competition while the formula for sales are constant

2024 was an extremely competitive year on the Hot 100

Your statement was that ''chart longevity was the best measurement of how big a record was''. That's an overall statement and not just for a specific year or period.
Incorrect statement

Incorrect statement
It is correct, especially when you’re comparing songs that not that far apart in release. Y’all act like 2018 and 2020 was decades ago.
Answer me this, @Zackbrah
Why does Drake have zero songs as a lead artist that charted for more than 36 weeks total on the Hot 100?
He drops literally every single year, and there has been at least one song every year of the past 6-7 years to chart for 40+ weeks.
Why does he have none?

God's Plan spent 36 weeks on the Hot 100
It's 16x platinum
You got songs that spent 50 weeks on the Hot 100 and they didn't even go 5x platinum
You gotta start using your brain man

That’s not what I asked.
I asked why doesn’t he have any songs as a lead artist that charted for longer than that?
I Like It by Cardi B dropped a few months after God’s Plan and charted for 51 weeks.
God’s Plan being as big as it was, you would think it would’ve charted for 50 weeks at minimum.
Why do all of Drake’s hits have super fast peaks and then can’t stick around as long as some of his peers’ hits?

songs going diamond within 3-4 years had fast peaks? You do realize you don't go diamond if you don't get streams right?
Radio points keep songs stuck on the charts for ages, especially pop radio

Wow
God’s Plan was sent to Pop radio
What are you even trying to say, Fader? A song that spent 50 weeks on the chart but went 4x platinum is more successful or was more popular than the song that spent 36 weeks but is 16x platinum?

I’m asking you why don’t Drake’s hits have the same longevity as his peers’ hits do
How does a song like God’s Plan completely fall off the Hot 100 after just a little over a half a year?

How can a song become diamond within a few years without longevity, Fader? Especially when the ''peers' hits'' aren't even close to selling as much as those songs, Fader?

I've always thought this.
A song that peaks #17 and stays on the chart for over a year is better than a top 10 hit that falls off after a few months
