Bieber is also a crossover artist who makes Pop. Not Black. Hope that helps

So $$$4U is the only album you can name a clear genre for?

  • Genre discussions are limiting same way calling someone a rapper rather than artist is limiting

Same way a lot of these artist they call hip hop don’t fit my PERSONAL definition of hip hop because they are saying nothing of value

LATTO ON TINY DESK IS AN INSULT

    “Crossover” is not a genre.

Every album ever has one genre that most applies to the majority of the music on said album.

You’re inserting yourself into a conversation without any of the context once again

@iHype is saying the album is an R&B album. That’s what I am pushing back on.

“ you got off work you weren’t here for all of this “

Yes I work a job where I can’t have my phone on me it’s nice to focus but now I would like to nerd out

I think genre is limiting for awards and billboard

I like saying how music makes me feel rather than some collective definition of sound

Same way this morning I said black country music could be reggae too lol

The context of this discussion was in relation to an album’s commercial performance expectation.

@iHype argued that $$$4U and HUT should have the same expectation since they are both R&B albums.

I disagreed with that, because HUT is a pop album in the context of how it performs commercially

I think both of you are wrong in a sense lol cause I think both albums aren’t limiting to one genre

Obviously yes Drake pnd more rnb but both have elements of MULTIPLE GENRES

WHICH All recent good music does

I’m not disagreeing with that at all.

But for the sake of this conversation, a genre label has to be applied

    No it absolutely is not.

14/20 songs on HUT are non-R&B songs.

Well you are both wrong because one album is a dark depressing suicidal album ( lol I love it masterpiece ) the other album is to get drunk to and have s***to

As I said the purpose of the album for the user is relevant

No one having s***to most if hurry up tomorrow
    That’s the clear rnb test

I would make a baby to abyss though
