Kendrick and his stans were always jealous of Drake's success

    “Success” lol

    Definitely not Kendrick.

    Maybe some of his fans.

It’s such a shallow ass way of looking at rap like this s*** only about who’s the most popular, sells the most, does the most numbers and has the most b****es in the clubs dancing to their s***. Like that’s all there is to rap.

Some people really look at rap like it’s just some f***ing hustle.

This debate been going on since this s*** went commercial.

Some niggas just really think that’s all that matters. That’s all some of yall know.
    Can’t stand that s***

Kendrick stans see their guy score some chart hits and now they've become chart merchants. What a hilarious turn of events

They spent the better part of the last 15 years forming a whole identity around "numbers don't matter" until their guy started putting up some numbers

    Kendrick stans became "Chart Merchants"

Drake stans became Alt Right Nick Fuentes type Groypers who think rapping on a "Jazz Beat" is apparently WOKE and should now be categorized as "Harriet Tubman Music"

It is what is I suppose

The idea that Kendrick has never cared for commercial success is one of the most disingenuous takes his fans have about him. He cares A LOT. There's not a single mainstream rapper who doesn't. And to add to that, we've seen that he cares because he has MULTIPLE albums aimed at scoring hits in his discography.

The man got on Buried Alive Interlude and broke down why he was envious of where Drake was at that time. The feelings he expressed on that song were as honest as anything he's ever said on wax.

I don't know why y'all keep acting like dude is some underground rapper who has never made several attempts at scoring hits or who doesn't care for commercial success. We know that's not true lol.

The idea that caring about being successful makes you a sellout has always been stupid to me.

Yes, you can care about your work having some artistic expression and integrity AND also wanna see said work reach as many people as possible and put up monster numbers. Two things can be true at the same time.

Kendrick fans see him as "authentic" partly because he's managed to convince them he's never had any taste for mainstream success when in many ways, he's done much more than even Drake and Cole at shooting for those things lol.

Kendrick got to where he is today and has never chased a hit record once in his entire career. He is good at making hits and very much capable of making hits, but it is not his primary goal as an artist, nor does he ever have to sell himself short to score hit records

This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Out of those three, Cole is the one that has shot for commercial appeal the least, and Drake is the one that has shot for it the most, by far

I’m not even being biased either, I can admit when an artist is chasing a hit. The Weeknd has done it numerous time.

Kendrick Lamar has never done it with his own music

I like bringing up Kendrick’s commercial success and the fact he is doing better than Drake now in here because this was the original title of the thread kendrick-fans-are-setting-him-up-for-failure-with-their-unrealistic-32519257

OP has been an insane Kendrick hater forever. The beef broke her and the rest of the OVHoes brains.

Kendrick has obviously chased mainstream success but he’s also shunned it and went in the opposite direction.

He could’ve made GKMC 2 but he went back and made TPAB with the funk and jazz influence, he could’ve made DAMN 2 but he went and did Mr Morale with songs like World wide steppers, crown, mother I sober, etc.

He’s a mainstream rapper and has chased commercial hits but he’s never done it in the same vein as other rappers like Drake
