I’m agreeing with you that this an incredibly rare promotion that 99.9% of albums do not ever have the opportunity to have, therefore we should expect a boost that is very rare and most albums could never have

No, it’s not. There is no overlap between the audiences. The film isn’t even gonna make that much money to begin with

Yes, and it will have little to no effect on the actual album.

Film audiences are not music audiences.

A three month old soundtrack is not getting a major boost from a film release.

Most people that see a film do not go home and play songs from the film after it’s done

Who exactly would see the film “Hurry Up Tomorrow” starring The Weeknd, but then have no interest in The Weeknd’s music or his newest album called Hurry Up Tomorrow?

The majority of people going to see this film are Weeknd fans who have already been playing the album regularly. That’s my point. This film isn’t going to attract a drastic amount of new listeners. It’s a low budget psychological horror film

This should be an even bigger boost than the SuperBowl was for Kendrick.

Ppl don’t just spend $20 million budget for no reason. Why don’t you have any faith in your fave?

133 million people watched the Super Bowl.

If a $20 million dollar film makes its budget back, that’s literally only about 3 million people

The f*** are you talking about

I can guarantee you Kendrick 13 min half time ain’t cost over $20 million though.

The idea of investing large sums of money is because the pay out should easily exceed that. So what’s wrong with expecting a higher payout in all areas?

You just have absolutely no understanding of how the film industry works.

A $20 million budget film is considered a low budget film, and is not expected to make back a substantial amount of money. The film will be extremely lucky if it crosses $50 million at the box office

Never even said anything about how much the film will gross.

The ALBUM has a $20 million budgeted film directly named after it and directly promoting it. This is an insane promotion that 99.9% of albums don’t have according to you.

So again, why are we expecting some minimal boost? This should be a colossal boost for the album.. one that outdoes the boost even GNX got, this is insane budget and promotion that all ties back to this album

The Super Bowl is a proven method of marketing for artists that has benefited most Halftime performers since its inception.

Going all the way back to the 60s, you can’t name more than TEN blockbuster albums that received theatrically released narrative films.

Because FILM AUDIENCES and MUSIC AUDIENCES are not one and the same.

The reason this album will not get a major boost from the film is because most of the (relative) few that are going to see it are Weeknd fans who have been listening to the album regularly anyway.

Psychological horror films don’t attract much box office to begin with, and the percent of non-Weeknd fans that give this film a chance and choose to stream or buy the album afterwards is an even smaller number of people.

If you can’t grasp this, you just have a fundamental misunderstanding of what any of this means

There is MUCH more albums that sold hugely being associated to motion pictures than albums that sold hugely being associated to SuperBowl Halftimes

    • Purple Rain
    • The Bodyguard
    • A Star is Born
    • Frozen, High School Musical, etc
    • Footloose
    • Hairspray
    • West Side Story
    • The Greatest Showman
    • Black Panther
      Etc

You been talking s*** about how Weeknd sells out stadiums in his sleep as some colossal artist and that the charts are insanely weak right now. Why you so hesitant in his power to go #1 with huge numbers following a movie promoting his album?

    • Purple Rain - Only genuine example
    • The Bodyguard - Soundtrack, released a week before the film
    • A Star is Born - Soundtrack, released same day as the film
    • Frozen - Soundtrack, released two days before the film
    • Footloose - Soundtrack, released two weeks before the film
    • Hairspray - Soundtrack, released ten days before the film
    • West Side Story - Soundtrack, released one week before the film

You are again showing you have a severe misunderstanding of what it is you are talking about.

Hurry Up Tomorrow is an original studio album. It is not a motion picture soundtrack, nor was it ever advertised as such. Purple Rain is the closest example that is the most similar to it.

Like I’ve said numerous times already, you can’t name more than ten MAJOR STUDIO ALBUMS that had FULL THEATRICALLY RELEASED NARRATIVE FILMS associated with them. A motion picture soundtrack is not a studio album, and even if it was, HUT released three and a half entire months before the film did, so it is not going to have a drastic effect on its performance.

Per Wikipedia, Hurry Up Tomorrow (album) was recorded after the film. Therefore songs/general theme were all directly inspired by it. Therefore it works similarly as a Soundtrack despite being released a few months earlier. It was created as a response to the movie.

Also movies have revitalized an artist’s discography and made their old music pop off plenty of times.

Straight Outta Compton, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc are other examples that now come to mind.

If your mans sells out stadiums in his sleep why you having a hard time believing the public would flock to a movie by him and then have a newfound adoration for his current album that is directly tied to it?
