The barbie soundtrack would like a word with you

I need y’all to please educate yourselves on the difference between a soundtrack and a studio album

A movie named after a studio album and including music from said studio album should absolutely provide a boost lmao.

But it doesn’t. I told you what would happen last week. Hope this helps!

Every time i open this thread you & fader are hating on Drake lmao

$$$4U has been performing better than After Hours, which you both kept banging on about it being one of the biggest albums ever lol. Strange.

    Better than After Hours

    Genuinely delusional

Funny cause a few months ago you said it would

If it was released on the same day, maybe.

But a low budget film niche faux-avant garde film is not drastically boosting the performance of a three month old album

  • May 21, 2025
    mangotflu

this gap was "impossible" just 2 months ago btw

In 2 weeks, $$$4U will have outsold it

All I see is two flops

Drake albums used to go Double Platinum in three months

Weeknd albums used to have hits that were in the Top 5 for months if not years

Both these niggas flopping incredibly hard and it’s a sign of how washed this site is that anyone is trying to cape for these albums being successful on here

    Didn't only Views do that?

It's just a new era where superstars struggle with albums, even taylor's latest album isn't doing too hot longterm

    No.

Scorpion was certified Platinum on its release day because of the singles, and then it was certified 5x Platinum by January 2019, so it went 4x Platinum in just 6 months

CLB went 2x Platinum in 3 months.

And TTPD did 2.6M in one week, and then was certified 6x Platinum by December, so it did about an additional 3.5-4M in about 7-8 months

So 3 albums out of about 11?

Things changed around 2021/2022 for every musician, people just do not care about music like that anymore

    Yes, his commercial prime.

You can’t say things changed for every musician while simultaneously s***ting on other musicians who aren’t selling well right now

  • May 21, 2025

It’s either Drake is flopping relative to his commercial dominance, or things have changed for all musicians and expectations should be tempered for everyone.

You can’t praise Drake for barely moving a million units in 3 months while simultaneously s***ting on someone else for doing the exact same thing

I s*** on the current Weeknd era because he tried really hard to make it a huge success, even playing the "guys im retiring the weeknd name" as promo. but it all terribly flopped. even the MVs of this era have done shockingly bad

I don't really give a f*** about Drake's fall offs because he just isnt really trying to make things a massive success in the same way. Same as how Taylor Swift has basically given up now. Taylor's numers are now down like 80%

Taylor just released an album last year with no pre-release singles that sold 2.6 million copies in one week. I think she’s doing fine

And that same album is only #13 on the highest selling albums of the year. Because she has stopped the marketing train and disappeared

Okay? It was the highest-selling album of 2024 by an extremely wide margin.

It had more than DOUBLE the sales of the next highest album. In fact, if you combined the sales of the #2 and #3 albums, it would still be a lower total than what TTPD sold in 2024

That album could never sell another unit ever again and still finish in the highest selling albums of the decade with ease

My point is I'm not judging Taylor's 2025 the same way I'm judging The Weeknd's 2025

because taylor gave up, weeknd is trying very hard

You said Taylor’s given up now.

She didn’t give up, she just doesn’t have a new album to promote lmao

If she had something dropping she’d be in full promotion mode like Weeknd is

The Weeknd stans need to stop trying to act like him and Drake are both flopping. ONLY The Weeknd is doing that. He's had back to back flop eras now. That has never happened to Drake. The Weeknd went from having his biggest album era to having two of his least successful album eras and that's why it's so glaring how poor the performance of his music has been these past few years. His run of commercial success didn't even last up to 10 years. Blew up in 2015 and by 2022, had already fizzled out. Drake's been dominating commercially since 2009 and is STILL dominant. They're not the same.

By every conceivable metric, $$$4U is a success for Drake and an even bigger success for PARTYNEXTDOOR. I don't know how many rappers can score a successful/impactful R&B collab album with a non-mainstream R&B act, all coming off a rap beef that damaged his reputation conceivably and while suing his record label.

Pop culture is just moving on from the 2010s music stars, and quite frankly, it’s about time

  • May 21, 2025

The Weeknd has become so f***ing boring. Nobody wants that dark R&B sound anymore. It's like people asking for New Jack Swing in 1999. We're over that.

Gaga can also f*** off. All that praise for such a mediocre record. 2025 music is so disappointing.

let's focus on the exciting new chart developments, like how lose control will probably re-enter the top five when this morgan wallen album bomb clears up.
