if you think about it, there is not a single conversation where his specter is not lurking ominously in the background, waiting for his name to be brought up.

Drake dropped DLDT in 2020 and then SH2/CLB in 2021 not to mention like a dozen features, when HN, a dance album dropped, niggas were celebrating because it did 204k. They didn't wanna hear that it was a surprise dance album or that Drake had dropped a s*** ton of music already the previous months.
Their logic was: a new Drake album SHOULD do monster numbers just off of Drake's name. Those same people declared Tyler a superstar with Chromakopia but now they have every excuse in the book already lined up to explain why this album isn't matching the success of Chromakopia
It's all so hilarious because I think the album will debut with even higher numbers once the tracking week is done but they're doing the exact same thing they criticized some Drake fans for doing and I'm just calling that out.
Thats cuz the goal post always has to move when Drake is involved.

In rap, not really. They did a full, months long traditional media rollout. Can’t remember the last major rappers that have done that for an album. Kendrick didn’t, Carti didn’t, Tyler didn’t, Travis didn’t, Drake never does, Cole doesn’t, etc.

its at least gold eligible though they just didn't update it i guess. A lot of labels won't do gold plaques for big artists.

On top of that they did 3 exclusive deals with merch that most rappers nowadays wouldn’t and had actual prints like old school magazines. The colors show the tiny desk etc. they honestly cleared every checklist
