Every 20 year old has heard a Britney song lol

You think 20 years from now, people will think about BL at all? Trust me lol they wont whatsoever, no one even now thinks that song is special or unique

Young Gen Z’ers are like 15 years old. I promise you there are 15 year olds out there who have never heard a Britney Spears song.

So the entire world is gonna forget about a song with 5 billion streams in 20 years because you said so?

    Do you hear yourself?

well yeah, because songs need to be special to last that long

There were many songs being sung by way more people than that 20 years ago that no one gives a f*** about now, perhaps you're too young to remember

    You’re extremely stupid.

Blinding Lights released in November 2019. It has been on the Global Spotify Chart for a total of 2096 days, and it’s currently at #101. Here are all of the songs that released before November 2019 that are currently above it on that chart, and how many days they’ve spent on the chart in total:

    The Night We Met - 2015 - 1101 days
    Sparks - 2000 - 354 days
    Yellow - 2000 - 1699 days
    Sweater Weather - 2013 - 1828 days
    I Wanna Be Yours - 2013 - 1147 days
    All the Stars - 2018 - 810 days
    Creep - 1993 - 635 days
    Every Breath You Take - 1983 - 1413 days
    Let Down - 1997 - 87 days
    Breakin’ Dishes - 2007 - 151 days
    Dreams - 1977 - 799 days
    In the End - 2000 - 809 days
    The Scientist - 2002 - 517 days
    Viva La Vida - 2008 - 1095
    505 - 2007 - 1332
    Cruel Summer - 2019 - 932 days
    Apocalypse - 2017 - 1112 days
    Another Love - 2013 - 1593 days
    Shape of You - 2017 - 2614 days
    Perfect - 2017 - 2869 days
    Riptide - 2014 - 1657 days
    Rock That Body - 2009 - 87 days
    Feel Good Inc. - 2005 - 238 days

So out of all of these, the only two with more total days on the chart are two huge Ed Sheeran songs that released almost three entire years before Blinding Lights did. The next closest song is Sweater Weather, which released six years before Blinding Lights, but is still 200 days lower than it in total on this chart

All those streams outside US 🤣

Life Is Good still went diamond in the US faster.

Yeah because it was spammed on YouTube Autoplay for everyone in the country on every YouTube video

Song is barely clearing 500K daily streams right now

It also spent half the total days on US Spotify than Blinding Lights did

    Around 550 vs. 1295

No it did not, it’s just more fragmented and splintered off now. Just because the same 10 songs were shoved down our throats on rotation 20 years ago, that doesn’t mean those songs are gonna be the biggest songs of this century for the next 75 years. There are plenty of young Gen Z’ers out there who have never heard a Britney Spears song

Ngl I don’t think there’s a Gen Zer in existence who doesn’t at least know Baby One More Time or recognize Toxic

    Also, re: Blinding Lights

The song is slowly establishing itself as a Halloween staple. Each year it gains a massive boost of streams on Halloween, doing at minimum 600K in the US on the holiday every single year since its’ release

It makes a similar, but smaller jump every year on New Year’s as well

What does this have to do with what I asked?

If Blinding Lights’s success in the US was all radio payola, why did it spend double the amount of time on US Spotify as some of Drake’s biggest hits?

Also, this list goes against your point even moreso. Apple Music is a US-dominant service, and it’s #2 all-time on there behind only Shape of You. How was it all radio payola then?

dumb stat since it's a 3 year old tour lol, artists never used to have tours anywhere near that long

what does a tour have to do with a song anyway

It's like me saying Yellow is bigger than BL because Coldplays tours are a lot bigger than the weeknds

ofc not, because people generally don't listen to old music

blinding lights is basically still new relative to those songs I brought up previous

So BL doesn't have the longevity, didnt have the biggest cultural impact

id say its a top 10 song of the century but #1 is crazy
