The fact that people (not just black people lol) are influenced by what all these rappers talk about and they go copy it man. I don't know how anyone can dispute that.

Same way as Ye's rhetoric influenced some of his fans too.

Every artist influences so many people and you guys are like "no ur wrong they aren't causing problems!!"

It's a taboo subject but society cares more about anti-semitism than anti-Black rhetoric.

In a way, we're conditioned to accept rappers bragging about how many Black people they can murder, disrespect, steal from, etc. especially in Trap, Gangster rap, and Drill music.

I personally just see it as entertainment but I totally understand the double standard. Obviously glorifying Hitler is a straight up psychotic thing to do but 21 Savage bragging about his"Choppa Hates Niggas" has an anti-Black element to it as well. And there's tons of rap lyrics similar to that.

Malcolm Jamal Warner(RIP) even highlighted this a while ago. Again, I enjoy it either way but I do think it's hypocritical to claim that only Drake and Ye are "anti-Black" while ignoring the numerous rap lyrics over the decades glorifying Black death, pathology, misogynoir, and disrespect of .

Many civil rights leaders like Calvin Butts and Delores C Tucker also tried to imply hip hop was "anti-Black" back in the early 90's.

So yeah...it goes beyond Ye and Drake. Hell, look at how many rappers tap danced for Trump. If you look up "rappers who support Trump", you might be surprised to see who tap danced.

It’s not about society caring more about one than the other. Most of the rappers who talk about these things grew up in environments shaped by them. We call out the rappers who grew up in suburban areas and then start acting like they’re involved in that life. That’s corny.

Who are we to tell a rapper like Future that he can’t speak about all of that stuff on wax when he was literally raised surrounded by it?

That’s not the same whatsoever as Ye becoming a 45 year old man and choosing to turn into a Nazi and start spewing hateful rhetoric for absolutely no reason

We can both say that glorifying Nazism/antisemitism and glorifying Black violence/death/misogynoir is negative and has damaging effects on society.

Like I said, I don't look to rappers to role models so I just f*** with the music. But we can't in good faith stick our heads in the sand and act like rap hasn't been glorifying anti-Blackness for years. And act like Drake and Ye the only ones that pushed it.

I’m not about sit here and put rap lyrics under a microscope when literally nobody does that for any other genre of music.

If all of these rappers were in interviews saying “yes I kill niggas f*** my people I want to see d**** and violence in my community” then that’s a different story. But you’re talking about art. Art is not real life.

People love to crown white gangster movies as the pinnacle of cinema (The Godfather, Goodfellas, Heat, etc.), but the moment we get black art about gang violence it’s a threat to society? Nah I’m not hearing that.

If rap music is dangerous to society then so is every horror movie I’ve ever seen

Too many of you see music as nonfiction and that’s where the problem starts. Music is a form of pretend, of performance, of entertainment, of art. It’s not reality.

Yes, it can be informed by real experiences, but that doesn’t make the end result reality.

Kanye was in real interviews saying he loves Hitler and that he was a Nazi, that’s not the same thing whatsoever
