Views and Scorpion are Diamond-eligible albums. They're both culturally-relevant albums with culturally-relevant hit records.
GNX is/was supposed to be Kendrick's commercial peak. The album is isn't even a year old and it's already being outsold by a much older album like Take Care. Whether you assign a larger meaning to that or not is up to you but people aren't wrong to note/mention that.

I promise you with 100% certainty that in 7-9 years’ time, GNX will be a Diamond-eligible, culturally relevant album with culturally-relevant hit records.
Who cares that in Week 45 it was outsold by Take Care, it’s irrelevant because Take Care is a classic album.
Y’all are inadvertently disrespecting Take Care by using it as some gotcha. Y’all are acting like GNX was outsold by a 6ix9ine album or something this week
Put it this way: both Drake and Kendrick have an early 2010s classic album of theirs that is currently outselling the others’ biggest commercial albums right now. It’s a moot point.
I personally think Drake has at least 6 classics but i'm not sure if everyone is ready for that conversation
imo, the only true "miss" in Drake's catalog is Room for Improvement.
Everything from Comeback Season to More Life is great and you can make a case for any of those projects being a classic.
Scorpion has his biggest hits and some standout moments but I'd consider that a near miss simply because outside of like 7-9 songs, it's a largely forgettable album.
He immediately picked things up with DLDT and followed that up with CLB/HN/HL. Those 4 releases are also great for what they are. Might not be as easy to make a case for them being classics but they're all really great projects imo.
For All the Dogs is a really good project too imo. Every song on the album has grown on me but I can understand people who don't f*** with it as much (personally, I think it's aging incredibly well) and $$$4U is yet another great project that'll age really well and you could make a case for being another classic.
All in all, dude has one of the strongest catalogs in rap history but its something most people won't acknowledge till he retires completely.

This is after a huge industry push for Kendrick too. Its actually embarrassing that he's supposed to be Drake's competition. No wonder why he moves with so much confidence. Jay Z had to compete with Nas, Eminem, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and DMX. Drake literally has no one challenging him

I didn't like scorpion at first but i've found it to be one of his most introspective and personal albums outside of the hits. I think the hits just overshadowed the deep cuts. I'm adding it to the classic list.
I swear to god if another rapper released scorpion there wouldn't be a debate on its classic status. Its like how i consider WLR to be a classic because of its influence but fatd scary hours washes it in quality but since its drake we have to raise the standard

I mean, if this was an album like TPAB or Mr. Morale, I'd understand it already dropping off as hard as it is but GNX has legit slappers on it. Like 5 songs off the album reached #1 on Rhythmic radio. I don't even think Drake has done that with a single album.
The fact that an album like $$$4U is on pace to outperform it on the Billboard 200 is definitely interesting to me.
We'll see what ends up happening, but dude has toured the US playing stadiums in promotion of that album. It should have at least performed as well as DAMN did, considering the fact that Kendrick didn't have nearly as much visibility or hype as he did following the release of DAMN as he did with GNX but hey.

Fair enough if you think so but I won't argue with anyone who thinks Scorpion is weak and forgettable outside of its hits and a few standout moments. I don't think it's necessarily a bad album, I just think the bulk of songs on it are forgettable. If they never existed, I wouldn't care because Drake just has many more songs I revisit more/I think are better.

The fact GNX was more of a regional classic than a “commercial peak” is breaking their brains
DAMN is his commercial peak in album form
2024 was just his most outstanding year in general
Obviously if NLU was on GNX it would be a different story, but GNX wasn’t some pop album curated to be a commercial juggernaut, it was more like a thank you to his community.

I'm actually shocked that people are surprised its not holding up on the charts. The individual singles always performed better than the actual album sales if you look deeper at the numbers. that's because radio factors heavily now on singles billboard charts. Remember it sold 319k while fatd sold 402k first week. i always viewed it as a pop rap album made to be pushed to the masses. ffs its executive produced by Jack antonoff. I never saw it as a great album that could stand on its own over time

which songs do you think are weak on it

This logic makes no sense. Of course the biggest songs on the album are making up the bulk of its sales. If you removed God’s Plan, Nice For What, and In My Feelings from Scorpion, that would be the weakest performing album in his entire discography
GNX is currently the second highest charting rap album on Spotify, and it released almost an entire year ago. It’s an extremely successful album

LMFAO
And 2011 was absolutely NOT Wayne what are we talking about
It's tricky.
Wayne had more hype for C4 but the hype died down pretty fast after a few months while Take Care was also popular and showed way more longevity and impact.
They were both on a strong feature run too, especially with I'm On One coming out.
Wayne had the post jail anticipation of dropping another blockbuster Carter album but Drake sustained his hype with Take Care for longer.
Remember gnx second week outsold fatd 2nd week. Kinda embarrassing since it had a weaker first week
Stick to the charts
Bro thinks a group committing genocide in yemen aren't terrorists lmao

this album is not selling 7.5m units in the next 9 years man. the US is moving on fast
Funnily enough that they were both the last years of their respective decades, but I think the most wide open years in recent rap history as to who was the face of the year are 2009 and 2019
Probably the guy that over doubled everyone else (Except juice, which was close) in 2019

https://twitter.com/chartdata/status/12153255425781473282019 was literally an inactive year for Drake, he didn’t release a new project
Back catalog be cooking y’all brains
Also, like we’ve already said numerous times, being the face of rap for a given year is not as simple as “who sold the most units that year”

1 year old project = back catalog
1 year old project = back catalog
He didn’t release a new project in 2019 and sold 4.5M units for the year. You think that was all Scorpion?
Only 1.1M of it was, barely a fourth.
He still would’ve been the highest selling rapper of 2019 even if Scorpion hadn’t released the year prior. That’s off the strength of his back catalog.

Are you gonna say the same about Kendrick when he finishes top 3 artist of the year this year?
"Not impressed, GNX is back catalog"
