my example was in 4 months when the 2025 rankings come out, this place will 100% be celebrating Kendrick being top 3. By that time, GNX will be 13 months old.
You said Scorpion at the end of 2019 was "back catalog" even though it was 17 months old. When does an album become "back catalog"? between 13 and 17 months old? Crazy tbh
Back catalog to me is at least 3 years old. Anything newer is very recent in an artists discog
What my point is: if you completely removed the Scorpion sales from Drake’s tally in 2019, he still would’ve comfortably finished as the highest selling rapper that year. Why? Because of the strength of his back catalog. It’s not like he was still riding off of the success of a recent album that just dropped late in the previous year; Scorpion did the bulk of its damage in 2018.
I never said that Scorpion was the back catalog. I said that the back catalog was the main reason he was #1 in sales in 2019, even with barely releasing any new music that year.
That’s not comparable to Kendrick’s 2025 at all. If GNX hadn’t dropped in November 2024, Kendrick would absolutely not be finishing Top 3 in sales amongst rappers this year. The reason that he most likely will is because of GNX and when it released.

I promise you with 100% certainty that in 7-9 years’ time, GNX will be a Diamond-eligible, culturally relevant album with culturally-relevant hit records.
Who cares that in Week 45 it was outsold by Take Care, it’s irrelevant because Take Care is a classic album.

Put it this way: both Drake and Kendrick have an early 2010s classic album of theirs that is currently outselling the others’ biggest commercial albums right now. It’s a moot point.

So far, I think My Turn, Pop Smoke's album, and maybe CLB are the only rap albums this decade that have the potential to go Diamond.
GNX is successful of course but I don't see it being sustained enough to go Diamond even 7-9 years later.

My prediction is that by this time in 2027, GNX won't even be charting on the Billboard 200. I'm open to being wrong although I doubt I'll be. Kendrick's two evergreen albums with mainstream listeners will remain GKMC and DAMN.
