i also remember billboard creating new rules to limit how much digital versions you can release
Digital sales have little impact on her first week numbers, she used them to reach #1 again in later weeks.
Like 90% of her first week sales are physicals usually. All she has to do is just release more versions and brainwash her fans into thinking they’re “collectibles” which causes them to repeat buy.
Are you serious? The hype for this album has been everywhere lmao
The first track literally just broke the record for the highest first day streams in Spotify history
i’am getting major déjà vu because this is exactly how drake stans were like when FATD came out. no shade to you but it’s eerie how similar drake and taylors careers are at right now.
that was then and this is now. the taylor fatigue is very real
She is doing better with this album than her last one on Spotify. Only reason she is not breaking records is because it is 12 songs. There is no Taylor fatigue right now.
that said, it's crazy how if taylor wasn't in the most uninspired stage of her career she probably could have beaten 25's first week by now. she's doing these numbers with albums that are pretty widely considered to be the worst in her discography lol.
She is challenging 25 with this release regardless, but it’s not gonna ever be the same thing.
Adele did 3.4m with 99% of people buying the album once.
Taylor will do it because the average fan had like 3 purchases.
Her sales is pretty much similar to BTS tactics of just releasing a bunch of different versions of the same thing and having fans repeatedly buy until a goal is met. They can technically create any number they want but in reality it’s a smaller group that has repeatedly bought the same thing.

inb4 you say the internet is not a real place but im seeing taylor slander all over the TL. even some of her most diehard stans are seemingly checking out of this era

First week sales have nothing to do with quality or reception.
The vast majority of her pure sales are preorders before her fans even heard a single second.
You’re thinking Taylor Swift fans listen to the album first, then decide if it’s worth buying.
They have preordered 4 different versions prior to it being released.

No Taylor fan that was gonna buy multiple versions of the album is gonna switch up because the internet is hating on it. The internet is an echo chamber most of the time
We thinking pure sales gonna take it over a mill?
EXCLUDING?

That’s what I’m saying lol. They don’t give af
Her team already planned what her sales target would be before the album was announced.
They released variants each week in specific quantities to track and make sure they reach that number.
Every single variant sold out when released in her store.
They already made sure this doing her last album’s numbers in the worst case scenario lol.

i agree, which is why nobody should give a f*** about first week sales in general but i digress.

Every single limited variant of her album in her webstore has completely sold out.
If she was tanking in numbers this time please explain why her album would literally be under stocked in quantity
taylor truly in a league of her own, and to think she boycotted streaming until like 2019

i don’t give a damn about these sales wars, y’all got it, i just thought based on the streaming numbers the album would disappoint for her standards
With how heavily she was selling all those vinyl variants, pure sales might take it over 2 million but she is not touching the Adele record.
Yeah I think she got like 3.5 mill right? I don’t think that numbers ever gonna be beaten lol

that would explain why her first week sales in the 2010s felt like they matched the level of popularity she had irl, while the slop she releases every year in the 2020s sells more but has no cultural impact. 1989 still feels like her biggest era by far.

1989 re-recording did more first week pure sales than 1989
The pure sales market has gone down like 80% since 2014.
She would have never touched those numbers with just 1 physical version and fans buying 1 time. She would’ve did like 500k pure which is obviously insanely impressive but not 1.4 million she did.
Her first week pure sales increasing as pure sales market decays is just a result of repeated buys with her fans.
When she wasn’t doing excessive physical variants in 2019-2021 that’s why her numbers were more casual cause the repeated buying wasn’t as high.

You see it. She sells more than everyone but it feels like nobody outside of her base really thinks about her whatsoever (albeit, her fanbase is larger than 99.99999% of other artists’)
Damn, this gonna be the Pop version of “Kendrick needed Drake’s name to get popular”
