Well guess what? When MJ died, he moved 35 million albums in 12 months afterwards.
Taylor sold 48 million albums in 2023. So MJ really wont win against TS with these hypothetical scenarios. There is no bigger boosts than the postmortem sales hike.
Huh

silenced EVERYONE. good job
And that's really what matters here. 1989 was a more impactful album than this. The numbers are there but despite all the promo she's been doing, as well as the numbers the album is putting up, it's non-existent in the real world.
I know that there are other external factors contributing to that but damn. Imagine doing 4M units in a week and it only being notable online lmao.
how can u compare the impact of a 11 year old album to a 1 week old album?
1989 wasn't all that well received in its first few months. yes Blank Space and SIO were smashing, but so are Ophelia and Opalite
Russ means well but he don’t realize this doesn’t apply to in-person physical purchases and there would be absolutely no feasible way to track it if it was
Also I’m 100% positive Taylor fans are aware of this rule and have found ways to work around it
https://twitter.com/russdiemon/status/19759988525502918114 per version... and that doesnt count them buying the whole shelf in store ☠️
Comparing a posthumous bump to a prime year is stupid
also i gurantee MJ had more unique purchases
when u look in the real world the alleged moment taylor is having simply does not exist
if this isnt enough proof sales are meaningless idk what is
idk if it's internet or what but I feel like taylor is confined to her fanbase like nobody outside of her bubble is checking her stuff im not mad at her sales it's just fascinating
🥲
b b but it's only the variants that give her this success

500K streaming
4M total units sold
30+ variants
I wonder what’s causing that overall total to be so much higher than the streaming total
Interesting that “impact” started to matter when it’s a Taylor Swift album
By the standards of this thread the album should be an instant classic
Debut Chart Points:
What, Did I Miss? - 180
Which One - 115
Dog House - 56
Nokia - 173
Die Trying - 141
= 665
The Fate of Ophelia - 740+
4M is wild to see in the title.
Feel like that would be the equivalent of a movie having a billion dollar opening weekend.

You just created a hyper specific opinion and attributed it to a whole sales thread that you’re also a part of. You didn’t cook here
So like did every Taylor fan buy all 15 different versions or something?
The numbers are so crazy that I genuinely don’t believe it

If he went full Bundle Scott he would get something going
