527K streaming for Showgirl first week. At 12 tracks, I think that proves that her perceived popularity is heavily inflated by the amount of variants she sells. That’s only 200K more than what Kendrick did with the exact same number of songs off a surprise release that lost 12 hours of tracking time. He probably would’ve cleared 400K+ if he had announced the album beforehand.
If she was really that much more popular than her peers, you’d think she’d do 600-700K+ with 12 tracks.
She’s definitely the most popular active musician, but she’s still nowhere close to someone like MJ at his peak
Grand opening grand closing......
Taylor really bullied Billboard to round up her debut week numbers to 4M using numbers from her second week...
For those who wanna talk down on 25. Taylor is most definitely crashing below 1M in her second week.
and adele will never clear 1 mil post 25. 25 was an album that rode the coattails of 21 and had half a decade of hype behind it
nobody is sad to see that record pissed and shat on. at least now the artist who has it is a true sales phenom and it makes sense
no matter what people want to push about variants the fact remains that every other artist could release as many variants and not come close to her numbers
My thoughts exactly. Adele is an icon, but this record was always meant for someone greater.
The first-week sales of The Life of a Showgirl were powered by its availability across 38 versions of the album over its first week. There were 27 physical editions and 11 digital download editions. Of the physical editions, there were 16 CDs, two deluxe CD boxed sets containing branded clothing and a CD, eight vinyl LPs and one cassette.
Swift’s webstore exclusively sold 10 of the CD editions (four deluxe editions in premium packaging containing a collectible charm and photo cards, four signed editions, and two deluxe boxed sets containing branded clothing and a CD). Most of the editions exclusive to Swift’s webstore were sold for limited windows of time since the preorder launch in August. Target had an exclusive CD, and there was one widely available standard CD. Plus, there were four CD variants with bonus tracks that were launched during street week and initially exclusively sold in Swift’s webstore, but then became available at indie record stores.
As for the vinyl and cassette editions, Swift’s webstore exclusively sold seven vinyl LPs and the one cassette. Target also had one exclusive vinyl LP.
Finally, on the digital download side, there were 11 versions to purchase. There were clean and explicit versions each of the widely available standard album, the iTunes-exclusive edition with a bonus video, and the track-by-track commentary edition. There were also four iTunes-exclusive versions with bonus tracks, and a version with bonus tracks exclusively sold via Swift’s webstore. Most of the download versions launched after the album’s release day; only the widely available standard album and the iTunes-exclusive version with a bonus video were available on street date.

Damn they upped it to 38???
Almost 40 versions of the album I’m crying

25 is still remembered and talked about a decade later.
Nobody is gonna be able to name a single song off Showgirl in six months
Anyone talking about Adele is confused. 25 sold over a million copies in its second week. That’s 10000% more impressive than whatever Taylor is going to do in her second week. I imagine the drop off is gonna be big compared to her first week.

Are ya really coping this hard bro?
520k from 12 songs is literally the record. Drake only did 560k from 21 songs, Morgan did 500k flat with 36 songs.
So showgirl got to drake’s biggest era with only 1/2 the songs and Morgan’s biggest with 1/3 the songs. Think on that.
