crazy thing is, drake will still probably wind up being the rap MVP by default in 2026 just by dropping iceman and getting a song or two to spend 20+ weeks on the hot 100.

kendrick can contend if he drops again, and maybe travis if his album doesn't come and go within a week, but that's about it as far as competition goes.

It’s crazy and scary that there really is no one else who can seemingly release a blockbuster rap album right now besides literally like three guys. Idk even Cole could release a blockbuster at this point

So u gonna tell me that an artist in 2005 got more leverage than one in 2025?

Another point to intensify the blow, 40 is on record saying that SFG was revolutionary for the industry because no one could believe that music this good was made off a laptop in hotel rooms.

Pair the autonomy rappers get from being able to publish their OWN music uploading mixtapes on streaming platforms recording music off they phones don’t got more of a chance than an amaturer recording on a 4 track in 05?

Obviously technology advancing plays a big role in this, but at the scene of the crime there’s always a guy there!!

Combine SoundCloud, defying the typical recording studio process with homemade s***, putting out mixtapes on streaming and blurring the line between mixtape and album yea I think u can easily and comfortably say drake revolutionized not only rap but music creation as a whole.

Autonomy means absolutely nothing if artists are starving after they hit upload from the comfort of their hotel rooms

Drake did not revolutionize music creation

If drake dropped in our time he woulda been the first rapper to make a Grammy album off bandlab basically that’s what he did in 09

I don’t I’m just smarter than you and look at our time with a futuristic lense. I’ve read too many rap forums from back in the day and see the cycle happening again. You’ll be looked back at as a dumbass tbh

I think it’s also insane no one likes to admit or remember how revolutionary drake was when he dropped everyone likes to glance over the fact a 23 year old made the two best rappers of all time collab on An album and they STILL LOST

there has NEVER been a rapper with that much buzz who actually cashed in on the hype check. LeBron James of rap and yall constantly talk about bro like he’s f***ing James harden nah nigga I’m dying on da right side of history

I find it extremely frustrating and disheartening that you all constantly deny drakes impact on the decentralization of hip hop music. Before drake there was so much more power in label owners hands but post him artist have far more leverage.

Whether that’s making mixtapes basically albums with the level of quality put into them

Or making platforms like SoundCloud a viable platform for artist to not only promote themselves but make money off their work

To literally blurring the lines between what can and can’t be uploaded to streaming services by putting a mixtape on iTunes. I know it’s hard to believe this is an accomplishment but at the time it was mind blowing lol

You let them tell it, Drake has never done anything positive in rap and everything bad and wrong about the genre is his fault. Just save your energy and stop going back and forth with these people

I'm glad he's been kicked out of the game now. We can all finally rest.

it’s also weird asf to be like “rip hip hop” because it’s not on the top of the charts.. combine that with the “low iq genre” comment & it paints a s***ty picture of the guy typing all that

It was clearly some attempt at him validating his disdain for the genre
