it's bad, he had the same streaming numbers as DAMN. (343 million) an album with 4 less tracks that came out in a far weaker streaming era

I thought it would beat Damn since streaming has tripled in audience since it’s release, and most other rappers have seen their streams double in that same time

But Damn was inarguably a more mainstream attempt. Getting a third of his total numbers on day 1 suggests he got people to check it out, but they didn’t listen to the whole thing or replay it all week.

If he does drop an album with a sound as mainstream as Damn again, I think he can clear these numbers pretty easily.

Lol the big 3 has always been about that generation - Kanye and Jay were outselling Cole and Kendrick in 2013, Eminem outsold Drake in 2013. The big 3 discussion wasn’t Em, Kanye and Jay though

i agree with you, if he made a more accessible album i think he would've came close to 500 million streams. the fact that this album was still projected to do 400 million streams after day one and came up very short shows how much it turned off the general public

An artist has not been in the public or promoted his next album for nearly 5 years...

Almost 99% of artists will dip

What the f*** does more people on Streaming have to do with that?

DAMN’s first week streams in the context of this era would be around 430-440 mil streams (concurrent to how streaming has grown since 2017). That would place it in the top 3 biggest streaming weeks of all time

Mr Morale’s 300 million something streams is way different from that

Album wasn't that accessible anyway, I think folks probably got turned off from We Cry Together and even Auntie Diaries

this has to be one of the most ridiculous excuses i've heard yet, if anything his prolonged absence would've peaked interest in hearing the album, and it did which is why the first day streaming numbers shattered DAMN.'s. but it didn't have the replay value of DAMN.

because 343 million streams in 2017 is not the same as 2022

And the 5 year gap helps and hurts him a bit

As has been mentioned, freshmen in college rn were in middle school when Damn dropped lol. His fans that f***ed with him 5 years ago were excited and at least came out to give it a shot, but he hasn’t done enough to make new fans during that time.

If he drops some loosies, does some features, and has a more traditional rollout for the next one, he’ll beat these numbers. They miscalculated the strategy with this one though lol.

Okay then yea I agree. This album is a lot harder to digest than tpab of course.
