DAMN. was the second best selling album of 2017 in the States.

Kendrick made an album about infidelity, daddy issues and sexual abuse, like no s*** that’s not gonna be popping off on the charts.

And besides that, ALL music that enters into the mainstream nowadays comes and goes and is only ever brought up again by stans on forums like this.

Some of y’all are so weird about this.

Though I am admittedly an idiot for posting this because this thread is literally built to attract the most superficial people possible, so that’s an L for me I guess.

What happens if Kendrick drops an album with "bangers" next year and does less than 295k? 👀

Unlikely based on the first day numbers of MMTBS - if the album had better replay value and word of mouth, it likely would not have dropped as badly as it did

His latest album did those huge first day numbers strictly due to 5 years worth of hype. He won't have that kind of hype the next time he drops.

It'd be nice to see Lil Baby break into that 250-300k tier with his next album.

I think if Cole drops yet another 12-track project as his next project, he'll struggle to touch 250k.

Nah everything he’s been doing lately has been well received. The sudden surge in No Role Modelz popularity has also kept his name out there. If he drops The Fall Off he’s doing monster numbers.

GKMC did bigger numbers than Section.80, TPAB did bigger numbers than GKMC. DAMN. did bigger numbers than TPAB. That's growth from one album to another. TPAB to MMTBS is a huge falloff. It's not out of the realm of possibility that his next album does even lower numbers.

Disagree. A hiatus can help artists, but doesn’t always happen that way. Same way over saturation can help or hurt an artist.

You think people will ever anticipate a Kendrick album the way they anticipated his follow-up to DAMN?
