Morale - Blxst, Tanna Leone, Baby Keem, Taylour Paige

BP Soundtrack - SOB X RBE, Zacari x2, Babes Wodumo (made Gqom famous in 2016, Gqom led to amapiano. Kendrick platforming of such new yet popular african artists influenced Beyonce to do the same on Lion King Soundtrack)

    DAMN - Steve Lacy, Zacari

TPAB - Rapsody, Thundercat, Anna Wise

    GKMC - Anna Wise

black panther is a good shout maybe you actually can say that it helped popularize (South) African music in the west, never reflected on that but off top it checks out. def the most he ever shared platform also, maybe with pgLang and that upcoming musical with South Park ppl we'll get more of that

but cmon no one on that Morale list has a career to speak of rly, no?

not what I meant. I mean I'm literally arguing that the album should be taken serious as a political statement

I mean as a white suburban dude I can say that the album directly inspired me to reflect on how political hip hop is and in turn studying the history of racism in US more, which in turn lead me to reflect on racism in Germany, postcolonial theory, bell hooks, etc down the line.

but the fact that there's so many bachelors and masters on "TPAB and racism" and it being the #1 album of all time on predominantly white suburban userbase of RYM does make you think that maybe the message was too simple to digest or even this white guilt giving a weird form of comfort rather than getting ppl out of their comfort zone (which I think you could define as the stated goal of political art)

it's not that reception defines the art but it can often tell you a lot about what it offered to ppl and also the shortcomings of it. like I dunno what does it say about Wolf of Wall Street that it inspired a whole generation of stupid capitalists, I think it's a great film but it clearly worked against its own message too. it's def a very complex relationship but still one worth thinking about imo

”it's just sad to me that we're as a culture just accepting (and even looking at this thread, defending) this status quo of running every creative industry into the ground with monopolized big players (Disney, UMG) running a business with mediocre art.”

    ”we’re as a culture”

”I mean as a white suburban dude”

You conflating. You asked about him platforming artists and I provided you examples.

If you want to talk about an artists success following a co-sign we can have that talk, but it’s gotta be away from the first topic

    Gosh

It’s funny because as a huge Drake fan Quadra wanted me to go back and forth so it looked like I was derailing the thread

When I didn’t and he picked someone else he showed why you should be careful what you wish for

that nigga @prissy kept open hand smacking that nigga in the face

I got muted longer than Quadra

  • Sep 20, 2024

Nigga do you think Taylour Paige did that s*** to start a music career

She probably just wanted to work with KENDRICK LAMAR

  • Sep 20, 2024

give an up and coming artist a completely new audience/ potential breakthrough to big success themselves

You say this but then continue to blame the responsibility of said artists success after Kendrick’s co-sign on Kendrick

  • YunoKilometers

u prob right lmao. no idea she was already well known since i don't really listen to her

Summer was already stamped way before Kendrick collabed w her, Over It is a pretty solid modern R&B album i’d suggest a listen

you don't know this? it's stupid af but it's a thing 100%. I live in Frankfurt which is the finance center of Germany and it's a whole stereotype around here and I personally know at least one person who had a phase idolizing Belfort

idk if it's partly ironic or whatever but yh
