I got Ether just for the fact it seems to be the only diss Jay got that made him break character for a minute lol

Plus they both went in on each other but Nas spun narratives that stuck. The public at large really didn't start arguing that Beans was better than Hov until Nas said it, same with Em renegading him and so on and so forth

the reality of wayne is hes obv always gonna be a great, but he didnt create the off the top style, he honed it and only to an extent, and his pockets, flows, freestyles, and sheer amount of work, and ability to flip others songs, and one liners/quotables is what makes him great

but he still just cant compare to an actual writer, or storyteller, in fact he had to reinvent himself to the above to compete, ripping up and destroying all his writtens in the process. and id argue Jay is STILL better off the top than him because he can be cohesive and tell a story still.

on hov, this is prob hot take too, but i never really put nas as far ahead as everyone else, that s*** was pretty close to a stalemate imo Ether just popped off kinda like NLU, and if thats the deciding factor then Nas for sure wins cuz of it, but personally they both didnt miss imo and had scathing ass tracks

im happy to see his rapping getting back on par, i didnt mind the beats as much as others myself tho, thought it was pretty good

I like verses he has fun and is funny . Euphoria was my top Kendrick song of year til all this .

It’s an appetizer for rest of indie career . Not a full concept album but I take it as driving around in a GNX

But even in Battle Rap.. the guys seen as the top dogs are the guys that can be well rounded and craft material specifically catered to their opponent.

The guys whose styles are straight punch after punch after punch tend to burn out quick I seen. B Magic was crazy in the 2010s then went through a rough patch before making his recent comeback.

I liked soul album too sometimes he got some corny lines but this his most recent most focused album . I do need to spend more time with it . Peace one of my favorites of year and fave Lupe soul feels like a continuation of THEY RESURRECT OVER NEW
