Like he has a lot of fans, I knew hella people who loved his music in school and I started following him in like 2010

But to me he just isnt nearly as good as Drake or Kendrick like at all, and a lot of people feel that way, no matter what era we go back to

lol straight capping. I’ve been listening to Cole since the come up and who dat wasn’t #1 at all. Biggest that charted was #93.
Half the other songs also didn’t hit top 10 either.

Cole was in new school big 3 convo until he dropped Sideline Story, then there was a huge gap.

Only thing that even brought Cole back in a conversation was a small subset hyping up his feature run. Kendrick and Drake surpassed him in 2012 and he has always been a distant 3.

The outcome of this beef was some s*** debated about for 10+ years before it happened so ofc it’s going to play a factor in their standing amongst the fans.

Beef or not, Coles career is solidified but will always pale in comparison to Drake & Kendrick to me

My main gripe with other NYers is that we got the most to say about every other region's sound but we left our guys dead in the water either due to hate or some other s***.

When Kendrick & Rocky were coming up at the same time, LA embraced Kendrick while a lot of our OGs was hating on Rocky for not sounding like Dipset or some s*** lol

Yet at the same time our OGs and Gatekeepers wouldn't give Joey Badass and the beast coast niggas any play or motion because their "names" weren't big enough so they had to run to the internet to get love

After Pop Smoke got killed the Brooklyn drill scene just devolved into niggas doing Christian Bale's Batman voice while ignoring the other elements of what made Pop stand out.

And that's not even getting into niggas not acknowledging the lesser known acts like MIKE

Proud NYer for life but where we at in rap is completely our own fault due to ego and hubris lol

It’s okay if you don’t like the “west coast” sound, but we really don’t give a s*** out west. Take it or leave It, it’s whatever. I’m just glad he’s unapologetically embracing where he’s from and not doing the boring cookie cutter trap or drill mainstream sound that everyone’s doing.

I mean the narrative already created & being ran with is that by suing UMG for not protecting him as an asset & allegedly pumping the NLU record is that he's some underdog fighting against an industry that is becoming more monopolized & anti-star. & all his stans are already running with that.

Even if that stuff about the labels is partially true about devaluing even it's biggest stars expendable for leverage in negotiation sake, it doesnt take away from the simple fact that this nigga lost & played bad strategy in a conflict he gleefully abetted.
